Second, explaining with conceptualization and analysis, etc. Second, explaining with conceptualization and analysis, etc. Second, the various distinctions of aspects such as with conceptualization and analysis are: among the eighteen realms, the five realms of consciousness, such as the eye, are the only ones that have both conceptualization and analysis. Because they face outward and (are included in the realm of conceptualization and analysis, being consciousness), they possess properties such as being both coarse and subtle. Therefore, a relational determination should be made regarding this (when explaining, it should be said): the five realms of consciousness are solely with conceptualization and analysis. This should be declared. (The commentators say that the word "is" is to ascertain that it is solely with conceptualization and analysis). Finally, the three realms of mind, phenomena, and consciousness are of three types: with conceptualization and analysis, without conceptualization but only with analysis, and without both conceptualization and analysis. For example, the realms of mind and consciousness that exist in the desire realm and the basic state (mere) of the first dhyana, and the mental factors of the phenomena realm other than conceptualization and analysis, are with conceptualization and analysis, because they possess equivalent properties. The mind, etc., other than analysis, existing in the special basic state of the first dhyana, and the conceptualization existing in the (basic state, the three root consciousnesses of the special state of the first dhyana are without conceptualization but only with analysis. Or, even if both exist, it is considered that only the basic state of the first dhyana is included in each). The conceptualization existing in the mere basic state is without conceptualization but with analysis, (in the desire realm, conceptualization does not have a second conceptualization, and it necessarily has analysis as a companion, while in the special state, conceptualization is abandoned and there is analysis). Because conceptualization is abandoned and it possesses equivalent analysis, and (for the latter two) conceptualization does not have a second conceptualization. The mind, etc., of the second dhyana and above, and the analysis existing in the special basic state of the first dhyana, and all the phenomena realms that are not mental factors, are without both conceptualization and analysis, because the second dhyana and above are places that have abandoned conceptualization and analysis.

Because there is no second examination of examination, and because non-corresponding dharmas do not possess both examination and analysis. (Therefore, there are four dharmas on the ground with examination and analysis.) Then, it will become that there is only analysis without examination, because all examinations do not have a second examination, and the examination from the first dhyana downwards corresponds to analysis. If so, although it is so, the sutra says that there are three grounds with examination and analysis, and three samadhis. In order to be consistent with this, it is said that the last three are three forms. The remaining ten form dharmas such as the eye, because they have abandoned both examination and analysis, it is certain that there is neither examination nor analysis, because they are not corresponding. If the five consciousnesses such as the eye have examination and analysis, then, the sutra says that monks have eye consciousness, know blue, but will not think it is blue, which contradicts the statement of being free from examination (saying that the body and speech without examination do not abandon karma). There are three types of examination: examination of nature, examination of determination, and examination of recollection. Among them, root consciousness is the examination of determination and the examination of recollection, so it is said that it does not examine, but it is not said that it is separated from the examination of nature. So, what are these examinations? The examination of nature will be explained in the mental factors. The examination of determination and the examination of recollection, in order, are the wisdom corresponding to the consciousness that is distracted from the object, and the remembrance of meaning corresponding to the consciousness without relying on names, whether it is samadhi or non-samadhi, it must be known that it is everything. Among them, the wisdom of consciousness that is distracted is the wisdom arising from hearing, thinking, and being born that corresponds to it (non-samadhi). Third, the five with objects, etc., are also the only realm with objects among the eighteen realms, because it is held by relying on the object, so it is the seven mind realms.
