The questions about earth and so on should also be understood for the following contents. As an answer to that, what can be indicated is only the realm of form here, that is, "this is here, that is there" (indicated by sound), because it can be indicated to the eye faculty (the consciousness that arises, namely eye consciousness). Therefore, the learned prince produces the eye (consciousness) of others with language, which is indication, and what enters together with it is what can be indicated, that is, the realm of form. The seventeen realms are not like that, so they are called un-indicatable. (The sutra also says, "Bhikkhus, form is the external sense base, with the four great elements as the cause, it is form, it is colored, it can be indicated, and it has obstruction." "Bhikkhus, the eye is the internal sense base, with the four great elements as the cause, it is form, it is colored, it cannot be indicated, and it has obstruction," up to the body. "Bhikkhus, dharmas are the external sense base, not included in the eleven sense bases, un-indicatable, without obstruction.") Furthermore, among the eighteen realms, the only ones that have obstruction (obstructing) are the ten forms such as the eye, where obstruction is heaviness. (If you ask whether the obstruction on the object obstructs, there are four possibilities: The first possibility is that the object has obstruction but does not obstruct, which is the seven mind realms and the corresponding dharmas of the dharma realm. The second is the five objects. The third is the five faculties. The fourth is what does not correspond to the dharma realm. If you ask whether the obstruction on the object obstructs the object of focus, then combine it with the following words, those that obstruct the object of focus also obstruct the object, because without the object, the corresponding dharmas will not arise. What obstructs the object but does not obstruct the object of focus is the five faculties.) There are also three types, namely the obstruction of obscuration, the obstruction of the object, and the obstruction of the object of focus. The first is that in one's own realm, it becomes an obstacle to the arising of others, that is, forms are heavy in one position (and the second form will not arise). (The so-called eight subtle particles are also arranged closely in their respective positions.) The second is that the eye and so on enter their own realm, but not other realms.

It does not enter. The third is that mind and mental factors each grasp their own objects, and do not grasp other objects. Here, it refers to the first case, because the atoms of the eye, etc., obstruct one from coming to the position of another. The remaining eight elements are not like that, so they are established as unobstructed. So, what is the difference between object and object of focus here? The object of the five senses is the object, and what is grasped by mind and mental factors is both the object of focus and the object. Here, in the commentary, in the case of obstructed objects, the four possibilities of obstruction and non-obstruction of the eye to water and land, as stated in the Treatise on Establishments, and the four possibilities of obstruction and non-obstruction at night and day, and also the four possibilities of obstruction of object and obscuration, and the two possibilities of obstruction of object and object of focus are explained. Therefore, the teacher Firm Intelligence also said that what is visible and obstructed is the object of the eye sense. What is invisible and obstructed is the five senses of the eye, etc., and the four: sound, smell, taste, and touch. Also, among the eighteen elements, since it is not possible to predict whether they are of the nature of good or non-good, the ones that are not definitely predicted are eight. Which eight? They are the ten form elements that are said to be obstructed, except for form and sound (these two can also become good or non-good), the five senses and smell, taste, and touch. Except for form and sound, it is because they can also become good or non-good. Some say that what cannot be predicted because it is a result of maturation is unpredetermined. This is not reasonable, because undefiled conditioned phenomena would also be included there. Therefore, its definition is also the same, because it is also said in the Vibhāṣā that it is undetermined because it is not possible to predict whether it is a good or non-good thing. Some explain that its definition is that it cannot be accepted or rejected, which is not reasonable, because clear eyes, etc., are to be accepted, and the first two views of the desire realm and their associated factors, and the afflictions of the two upper realms are not to be rejected, or they are not undetermined.
