As "earth" says, it is different from "completely imputed," therefore refuting sameness, Ācārya Gaṅgapāda explains. Therefore, Ācārya Jñānagarbha also said that any thing that is form, is action, but is not an indicator of other things, such as the five sense faculties such as eyes, and smells, tastes, tactile objects, and forms that are not mental and verbal cognitions, such as sounds; is action, is the nature of karma, but is not an indicator of form and other things, such as mental karma, mind, etc.; is form, is action, and is also an indicator of other things, such as mental and verbal cognitions; is form and action, but is not an indicator of other things, such as not being a mental and verbal cognition. Thus, the four possibilities are explained.) Regarding this meaning, Ācārya Gedun Sangpo said: Here, incompleteness, scriptures contradict, decline and not that, that itself is the fault, also sound is redundant, statement is different, action is not made different. Thus, it is refuted. Like this, if it is a constant connection, then the first moment that is not a mental and verbal cognition is not constant, therefore for it, the characteristic is incomplete, the constant is because it is not a substance, therefore if it is not established as a substance, then it contradicts the scriptures that say it is a substance, if a connection after distraction and mindlessness is needed, then the non-mental and verbal cognition arising from samādhi (because it does not exist, therefore), it will not become like that there, so it is a decline, if it is not distracted and with mind, the connection (exists), so if it is thought that there is no fault, then (virtuous and non-virtuous) mental and verbal cognitions also become non-mental and verbal cognitions, therefore it is not that, so it becomes the fault of that itself, because the connection is shown when the mind is distracted, therefore in order to understand that there is a connection when there is mind, the word "also" (of the self-commentary) is a redundant statement, (because it exists when there is no mind, so it is necessary to specifically point out that it is not a virtuous mental and verbal cognition, if non-virtue is not abandoned, then the two samāpattis will not arise.) Because the invisible and unobstructed form is not shown, the uncommon action is not specifically distinguished. After saying this, (Ācārya Jñānagarbha said that if the first moment is not constant, then the following is not either, so it becomes the fault that the constant does not exist, the constant subsequent connection arises, the substance is established and does not contradict the scriptures, it arises after being undistracted and with mind, so the common

Because it pervades (all) places, and for expression, there is no non-specified (unspecified), so it itself is determined to be good or non-good, so there is no excessive pervasiveness. Moreover, since only ten types of colored realms are said to be obstructive, it is established as non-obstructive, so it is distinguished by function, they explain it this way. (Acharya Shanhai) According to his own sect, he says: What is the mind, which is also different from what is done, for the mindless? Unspecified, unobstructed form, that is not expression, I think so. This is how its characteristics are established. According to both sects, if it is considered to be the follower of the non-scattered mind, then expression will also become its follower. If it is considered to be the follower of the mindless, then the two vows born from samadhi will become not its fault, which exists. (Therefore, if you say unobstructed form, there is no fault.) Secondly, by the way, explaining its cause, that is, the cause of arising, is to take the great elements as the cause. What are the so-called great elements? The four great elements that are the cause are the earth element, the water element, the fire element, and the wind element. Because the fruit form arises from them, and due to the control of sentient beings' karma, from the beginningless cycle of reincarnation, it has never appeared or experienced, so it is arising. The so-called great is because most of the respective functions are at work. Acharya Vasubandhu said that because it is the basis of all forms that are the cause, the basis is vast; because all accumulated forms have hardness, etc., existence is vast; because the places are different, it is great. The so-called realm is because it holds its own characteristics and the form that is the cause, and is the cause of the form of the fruit. What are their functions? They are holding, and including holding, maturing, and growing with the word "etc.", which are the functions of earth, water, fire, and wind in order. Here, the separationists (for each great element, the functions of the other three can also be seen, and the functions are not confused with the nature.) believe that in the collection of one great element, all four also exist. (The difference between function and nature is, Acharya Jushi said, what is the difference between function and nature? The characteristics and functions of the great elements are the three times.
