Among the two explanations, the first question is: So, is the basis for obtaining separate selective cessation also non-selective cessation? Is the basis for obtaining non-selective cessation also separate selective cessation? Answer: There are four possibilities for this, the first being:) Like the contaminated past, the present that occurs, and the future that will occur, etc., because they are contaminated, the selective cessation that can be prevented by the power of the antidote can be obtained, but the non-selective cessation cannot be obtained because it is the nature of arising (and non-selective cessation is the reason for permanently hindering arising). The object of negation that only obtains non-separate selective cessation is the uncontaminated, eternally non-arising dharma, because it is uncontaminated (without fault and not to be abandoned), so it is not an object of negation by the power of the antidote, and because it does not have the complete causes and conditions, it never arises (and hinders arising). What is both is the contaminated, eternally non-arising dharma, and what is neither is (unconditioned), like the uncontaminated (conditioned) dharma of arising, etc., is explained, but (it is impossible for the unconditioned to have two cessations because it is impossible for it to arise. The second is:) If those uncontaminated and contaminated non-arising dharmas never arise, then they will become non-conditioned, because they are not made by causes and conditions. If so, then they will become non-objects of negation, because the objects of negation of the two cessations are conditioned. If it is said that the contaminated and uncontaminated are conditioned, and their non-arising is considered to be the non-arising dharma, but it is not considered that the non-arising and the conditioned are the same entity, then this is not the view of the Vaibhashikas, because they admit that the future truly exists, so they admit that it has both arising and non-arising. The two cessations themselves also become their own objects of negation, because they are the nature of preventing the arising of the conditioned, which is the object of negation. Therefore, the future non-arising dharma is conceived by the Vaibhashikas. (Here, obtaining both is not obtained simultaneously, but like this:) Here, Acharya Sheng Sheng first obtains separate selective cessation, and then obtains the other (through faith and understanding).

If the abandonment of what is to be abandoned by meditation is abandoned, then it arises at the time of obtaining its victorious liberation. Since there is a possibility of deterioration, it also arises at the time of the transfer of the senses, etc., which is non-victorious liberation.) If an Arhat's eye and mind are distracted by one form, then it is like the consciousness that grasps the five objects, such as other forms from that. (The five sense consciousnesses are contaminated, so Arhats previously obtain victorious liberation from all contaminated things.) Each previously obtains non-victorious liberation, and the other obtains it later, like the going of those who have obtained forbearance to the lower realms (whose aggregates are prevented by non-victorious liberation, and its victorious liberation is obtained when the path of meditation arises.) Both are obtained together, like obtaining the path of seeing, abandoning what is to be abandoned by the path of seeing, and those obtained by the path of seeing, abandoning the greatest of the great to be abandoned by the path of meditation (or those great future ones obtain non-victorious liberation, and faith also hopes to be reborn, or those with a higher realm basis obtain it all at once.) (If you ask what is the difference between this and liberation that is not combined with time, it is explained that it is because that is non-learning, so it is not a cause of attainment.) Both cannot be obtained, like other situations besides that, and such four distinctions are also explained. (The basis for calculating such four distinctions is that there is no contradictory relationship, like the real contradiction between contaminated and uncontaminated, by eliminating the three aggregates, so there are no last two sentences, and the transmission contradiction like blue and yellow, because the nature is contradictory, so there is no third sentence, and the relationship of the same entity, like what is made impermanent, so there are no first two sentences, and the relationship arising from that, like fire and smoke, so there is no third sentence. The necessity of calculating the four distinctions is that one will become proficient in what is to be known. The meaning of the sound is that the distinction refers to the boundary, and for such a question, it is certain that there are only four answers, and there is no meaning of a fifth, etc.)
