Having gone there. Now, one should remember the Lama's instructions and practice accordingly. In the 'Extraordinary Transference,' it says: 'Previously, repeatedly contemplate the Bardo, get used to it, and use methods to verify whether it is real or not. Observe if there is a shadow, ask people who were familiar before if they know, and observe if there is any obstruction with rocks, mountains, etc., also get used to it. If one is very accustomed, even during the Bardo period, one will know oneself to be in the Bardo, or others will tell you that you are in the Bardo, and one will know from that. If not, just like dreaming in a dream, falling asleep while sleeping, one will not know. The Bardo beings also cannot recognize themselves in the Bardo. Thinking they have not died, they still carry on with their habits as before. Therefore, it is very important to know that one is in the Bardo at that time. After knowing, it is very important to practice the previous instructions. That is, for whatever clear light appears, in a state of non-attachment, just rest in it. Without distraction, staying single-pointedly, one will be free from fear and dissolve into the clear light. 'At the time of death and in all stages of the Bardo, it is very important for oneself to have a firm recognition of the Bardo, or for others to repeatedly perform Bardo prayers. If one cannot be liberated even in the Bardo, one can be reborn as a practitioner with yoga. Habituation to that (light) will lead to the supreme Dharmadhatu. Even if one has not become accustomed to it for a long time, if one's experience and definite understanding of the Dharmadhatu are firm, if one does not abandon non-virtue, and if one does not break one's vows, then the clear light at the time of death and the clear light of the Bardo, through repeated habituation, will definitely lead to liberation after seven lifetimes, there is no doubt about this. Why? Because Avalokiteshvara (mGon po spyan ras gzigs, Lord Avalokiteshvara) is reliable, is a witness, he has definitely said so, and there is scriptural and logical proof.' 'Apart from this, most other Powa and Bardo instructions are difficult to see the place of transference—the clear light Dharmakaya ('pho yul 'od gsal chos sku). Even if one sees it, it is difficult to recognize that it is the Dharmakaya. Those places of transference are just constructed by the mind, and one only presumptuously thinks that the consciousness has been transferred. Therefore, it is very important to recognize the clear light Tathagatagarbha ('od gsal bde gshegs snying po) and the temporary adventitious defilements of consciousness (rnam shes glö bur dri ma). Therefore, one should recite this extraordinary guidance.' One should also recite this brief prayer or aspiration: 'Namo Dharmadhatu Akarabhya Homage to the Dharmadhatu Akara). To the supreme, eternally unchanging Dharmadhatu that is inherently present in all sentient beings, to the clear light blissful body that possesses all perfections, I pay homage to the Tathagatagarbha (bde gshegs snying po).' You who have a leisure human body and hold monastic vows, now... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
