Collected Works of Jetsun Chokyi Drakpa JCP6: Profound Introduction to the Manifestation of Clear Light at the Time of Death for Yogis Profound Introduction to the Manifestation of Clear Light at the Time of Death for Yogis Profound Introduction to the Manifestation of Clear Light at the Time of Death for Yogis Homage to the Guru and glorious Kalachakra! The yogi who meditates on view, conduct, and meditation without error, Like a flowing river, the yogi who meditates, I will write a little about the profound instructions for the manifestation of clear light at the time of death for the superior, intermediate, and inferior. Here, the high yogi who possesses hearing, thought, and samaya has two types: The renunciate yogi and the yogi with a retinue. First, the renunciate yogi, residing in a cave or rock cave, if he dies without anyone noticing and is unable to sit in vajra posture, lying down like a lion, even if the outer breath appears to have ceased, do not revive him, do not perform funeral rites. Do not allow someone who does not know the special qualities of Shambhala, who does not possess profound instructions, or who is an ignorant person to look at him, let alone someone with sputum, someone who is defiled, or a woman. The introduction, rituals, empowerments, deities, etc., should be well protected without distractions or harm. Second, the yogi with a retinue, when the signs of death are complete, all objects that give rise to attachment should be offered to the Guru and the Three Jewels, given to the Sangha, and given as charity to sentient beings. Before death, when the clear light of the universe manifests, the introduction should be well remembered. In the Extraordinary Transference, it says: 'Cherish the instructions for attaining at the time of death. Therefore, it is important to abandon evil and accomplish virtue. It is important not to break samaya and to be without attachment.' Even if you have not meditated before death, how will you see the clear light of the universe? Knowing that death will come quickly, give away all objects that give rise to attachment. Abandon all activities and stay in a secluded and excellent place, with a friend who has experience and realization, or stay alone. With joy and happiness, think like this about transferring consciousness into the dharmakaya realm: 'I have seen a little of the clear light dharmakaya, but I have not seen the vast and limitless. Now I am happy to see countless forms!' Victorious... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Body and beings, good and bad, etc., although various good and bad appearances arise, there is actually no good or bad. Everything is a manifestation of the Dharmakaya (Chos-sku). Therefore, simply observe whatever arises. Do not have hope, fear, abandon, accept, negate, or affirm, but naturally abide in the non-elaborate, equal state. Introduce it as stated above. Then, at the time of death, when the outer breath has not yet ceased and the senses are weakening, have them perform their own central channel (dkyil-krung), and if they cannot do it themselves, have someone else help them. Before the outer breath ceases, keep the body stable. After the breath ceases and the body heat disappears, slowly let go. Separate the inside and outside with a curtain, and that is the supreme Dharmakaya Pure Land (Chos-sku). Arrange as many offerings as possible around it, and close the doors and windows. Even if you don't do the central channel, it doesn't matter, because binding the pulses during life is for controlling the energy, and now there is no need. Then, as the four elements ('byung-bzhi) dissolve, the white essence (dkar-cha) descends, and the red essence (dmar-po) ascends, merging in the heart center, and in the center of the union, the sign of awareness abiding in the clear light ('od-gsal) is: the body is full, there are no wrinkles, there is no odor, and there is no shaking. After the introduction is finished, do not do any more introductions or empowerments (dbang-bskur), etc. The rituals that were not completed before, such as the sound of the torma (gtor-skad), the water of the tsha-tsha, or performing them near the corpse, should not be done. If you want to do it, think that it is done by the Lama (bla-ma), and then do it yourself. In the extraordinary transference of consciousness ('pho-ba), it says: If the person nearby does not cause disturbance, from the cessation of the outer breath to the cessation of the inner breath, for three or four days, or even five or six days, they remain in the clear light as if in a faint. If they were very familiar with it before, and the introduction was well done, awareness will dissolve into the clear light. Even if it does not dissolve, it is better than many years of diligent practice. For such a yogi, like a treasure, one with realization should examine them and carefully guard them so that the white essence does not descend. If someone who does not understand interferes with their meditation, they will commit a sin close to the five inexpiable sins. Therefore, guard them until the signs appear. The signs are stated in the 'Free King' (dbang-mdor): From the urna hair of all the Buddhas, on the forehead is the moon nectar, the sun dust sky is secret, the crown is the wish-fulfilling jewel. In the 'Two Examinations' (brtag-gnyis) it says: The glorious one ascends above, and likewise, he will also descend. The wise one expresses the Tathagata with this. In the 'Immaculate Light' (dri-med 'od) it says: The two feet are the wish-fulfilling jewel dust and the sun, the second is the crown nectar and the rabbit, always unceasing, without separation, whatever is desired will appear. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
