Because vipassanā (superior seeing) cannot be accomplished, vipassanā necessarily requires both analytical meditation and stabilizing meditation. Second, regarding one's own tradition, there are three points: the reason why both stabilizing meditation and analytical meditation are necessary, refuting objections to this, and explaining the key points of how to cultivate it. The first point is: When cultivating vipassanā after śamatha (calm abiding) has been accomplished, one must alternate between analytical meditation and stabilizing meditation. If one only engages in analytical meditation, the previous śamatha will be destroyed, which is not acceptable. However, if one engages in much analytical meditation and accomplishes vipassanā, it will become a union of śamatha and vipassanā. Moreover, in order to generate vipassanā that realizes the meaning of selflessness, it is necessary to first engage in śamatha that is placed on selflessness. The second point is refuting objections: If one needs to analyze separately when generating vipassanā, then how can non-conceptual wisdom arise from that? Because the cause and effect must be consistent. If one thinks like this, although it is true, it is not absolute. Because ordinary beings do not have uncontaminated non-conceptual wisdom, but through familiarizing themselves with contaminated conceptual wisdom, they can generate superior uncontaminated non-conceptual wisdom. When uncontaminated wisdom arises, the contaminated wisdom that is the cause will transform into uncontaminated. For example, it is explained like rubbing dry wood and a dry wood stake to generate fire, and then burning both pieces of wood. Furthermore, there are many examples of different causes and effects, such as a seed producing a green sprout, firewood producing fire, fire producing smoke, a tree trunk producing flowers, and a woman producing a child. The third point is briefly summarizing the key points of the method of cultivation: As mentioned earlier, after obtaining the view of definitive meaning, one should repeatedly analyze the meaning of selflessness with the wisdom of separate analysis, and finally increase the certainty of that meaning. Then, one should alternate between stabilizing meditation that holds it without distraction and analytical meditation. If the stabilizing aspect decreases due to too much analytical meditation, then one should engage in stabilizing meditation to restore the stabilizing aspect. If one does not analyze, then there will not be much harm to superimposition, so one should engage in much analytical meditation in order to accomplish equipoise of śamatha and vipassanā. Fourth, the standard for accomplishing vipassanā is: Like this, analyzing with the wisdom of separate analysis, through the power of meditation, until the bliss of pliancy as mentioned earlier has not arisen, it is only in accordance with vipassanā.

It is Napa. From the time that pliancy arises, one becomes characterized by vipassanā. It is not merely pliancy, because it has existed before, but rather the pliancy that is obtained through the power of analytical meditation. Third, the way of uniting śamatha and vipaśyanā: "union" means two, so both śamatha and vipaśyanā must be obtained. Moreover, from the time of obtaining vipaśyanā onwards, it becomes a union. It is also said that there are four applications of mind to this, so when the fourth application of mind, as previously explained, arises, it becomes a union. To briefly summarize the general meaning of the path: First, rely on the spiritual friend, who is the root of the path, generate the desire to take the essence from leisure and fortune, and meditate on the aspects of leisure and fortune. Then, unless you reverse the mind that seeks only this life, a strong desire for the next life will not arise. Therefore, contemplate the impermanence of having obtained a body and the way of wandering in the lower realms after death, and in order to protect against its fear, take refuge in the Three Jewels and strive to learn their precepts. Then, generate faith in karma and its effects, engage in abandoning the ten non-virtues and practicing the ten virtues, and do confession, etc., training the mind in the practices of the being of small capacity. Then, contemplate the faults of samsara in general and in particular, and do whatever it takes to turn the mind away from samsara in general. And identify the afflictions as the cause of samsara, generate the desire to abandon them, and strive to learn the three trainings and individual liberation in order to be liberated from samsara, training the mind in the Dharma practices of the being of middling capacity. Then, seeing that sentient beings who have not become like oneself, sinking in the ocean of existence and tormented by suffering, are also like oneself. Generate the mind of enlightenment rooted in love and compassion, and train in the six perfections and four ways of gathering disciples. In particular, you must strive to train diligently in the last two perfections. Second, in particular, the way to train in Vajrayana: Having trained in the common path in this way, one should enter Vajrayana. This path is rarer than other Dharmas and quickly completes the accumulations. Moreover, having entered the gate of empowerment, rely on the lama, strive to keep the vows, and strive to practice the two stages, etc., that you yourself are practicing. These aspects can be understood from the Great Treatise on the Stages of Mantra, etc., but here only a brief indication has been given. Then
