The reason for translating it as "Dharani" is that "vi" in "vidāra" is a negative word, which has many meanings such as separation, opposite, and individual, but here it is translated as "individual." Second, regarding the meaning of the name, Vajra, as mentioned earlier, completely destroys all unfavorable things. Regarding Dharani, there are generally two types: the Dharani of the expressing word and the Dharani of the expressed meaning. Here, the former is the main one. There are four types of Dharani of the expressed meaning: the Dharani of patience, the Dharani of mantra, the Dharani of words, and the Dharani of meaning. The first is the arising of samadhi and wisdom that are not afraid of emptiness. The second is that the mantra that pacifies sins and other unfavorable things with its power is a certain Dharani obtained from being able to create mantras. The third and fourth are the Dharani that can remember many words of scriptures until the end of the kalpa, and the Dharani that can remember many meanings until the end of the kalpa, which are held by samadhi and wisdom. Second, the translator's salutation is to pay homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, which is easy to understand. Third, the content of the text has four points: the cause of the arising of Dharani mantras, the characteristics of Dharani, the real Dharani mantras, and the order of the Dharani ritual. The first point is that this scripture to be explained, I, the compiler, heard that at one time, it was not heard many times, but heard once, and remembered without forgetting even after hearing it only once, which shows that this Dharma is rare and that one's own wisdom is vast. At that time, the Bhagavan Shakyamuni Buddha was seated on the Vajra seat, which literally means seated on the Vajra seat, and in the ultimate sense, seated on the wisdom Vajra of non-duality of mind, by the power of the Buddha himself, holding the Vajra in his hand, that is, "Pāṇa," which means hand, and with the honorific, it is "holding the Vajra in his hand," he himself blessed his entire body into the nature of the wisdom Vajra, and focused his mind on the Vajra samadhi of non-duality of mind. The previous sentence shows that the nature of the body of the hand Vajra is not a body composed of the four elements, but has the nature of wisdom. In general, Vajra has the right

Regarding the two vajras: The provisional vajra has one prong, three prongs, five prongs, and various other vajras. However, in the vajra held by Vajrapani, the five-pronged vajra is the most important, and the five prongs represent the five wisdoms, etc., with many meanings. The definitive vajra has two aspects: the emptiness that is the object, and the wisdom that realizes it. Here, if we consider it from the perspective of the wisdom that is the subject, the definitive vajra is the non-dual wisdom of the Buddhas, in which profound emptiness is not separated even by subtle appearances of duality, but becomes one taste, like pouring water into water. This is also called the vajra of meaning to be represented and the secret vajra. When explaining the definitive vajras below, it is necessary to remember this meaning. As it is said in two Indian texts: "The nature of that wisdom is like a vajra, unobstructed in thoroughly realizing the suchness of all phenomena, and therefore it is manifested as being in a state of single-pointed equipoise." Thus it is said. Such a definitive vajra appears in the form of a deity in the provisional sense, and these are the two, provisional and definitive. The term "Vajrapani" in the provisional sense is the name for one who holds a five-pronged vajra, like Vajrapani; in the definitive sense, it means holding the definitive vajra just mentioned in one's mind-stream, having it in one's heart is like having it in one's hand. In general, regarding Vajrapani, the *Namasamgiti* says: "Vajrapani is infinite, a hero who subdues the untamable." As such, although there are countless deities named Vajrapani, this Vajrapani explained as holding the vajra is the king of all Vajrapanis. Vajrapani is empowered by all the Buddhas to subdue all the wicked, and manifests in a wrathful form, taking the form of a Bodhisattva, but in reality, he is the primordial Buddha. As it is said in the Action Tantra, in the context of praising Vajrapani with one hundred and eight names: "Buddha before all Buddhas." and so on. And in other praises of his names, it is also said: "Vajrasattva, great Bodhisattva." Therefore, he is described as Vajrasattva. Therefore, to say in the *Red Copper Beak* that Vajrapani was unable to subdue the Naga king Suta is a slander against Vajrapani.
