The mind that sees what does not exist as existing is a wisdom afflicted with afflictions. The fifth is holding precepts and asceticism as supreme, which is the mind that holds bad precepts and inferior asceticism as supreme, and is a wisdom afflicted with afflictions. The reason why the first six are called root afflictions is that they are the root or main cause of existence. Other than ignorance, the others are not the real root of samsara, because other treatises say that the root of samsara is pervasive with ignorance. But not all ignorance is the root of samsara, only ignorance that is ignorant of suchness is, while ignorance that is ignorant of other causes and effects cannot be the root of samsara, because there are no two different ways of clinging to the root of samsara. Not all ignorance that is ignorant of the suchness of the selflessness of persons is the root of samsara, because the self-grasping of persons in the continuum of noble beings is ignorance, but it is not the root of samsara. Those below the Svātantrika do not consider the grasping of things as true to be true grasping ignorance, but one should know that according to the Prāsaṅgika system, it is ignorance. If anything is ignorance or desire, it does not necessarily have to be a root affliction, because these two exist in the continuum of noble beings, because noble beings transform the desire for desire realm objects into a branch for accomplishing the benefit of others. Among the root afflictions, desire, anger, and ignorance are called the three poisons, desire is known by its own name, anger is hatred, and ignorance is delusion. Desire is not just the desire that is now called desire, which depends on the union of the two roots, but also the attachment to sensual pleasures such as form and sound, and the craving for contaminated things, etc., all mental activities of craving and clinging are desire. Anger is easy to understand, and delusion has two types, one is the gross ignorance of the objects of acceptance and rejection such as the Three Jewels or the four truths of karma and its effects, and the other is the ignorance of the suchness of the selflessness of phenomena and persons.

Slight arrogance, wrong arrogance is the seventh. Driven by afflictions, through any means such as lineage, wealth, enjoyment, qualities, etc., thinking oneself equal to this person, superior to this person, or even more distinguished than this person. Focusing on one's own aggregates, thinking "I"; thinking one has already attained a quality that has not been attained; thinking oneself slightly inferior to the excellent one; considering non-qualities as qualities. Among these, there are also those that are not actual arrogance. As for doubt, generally there are two types: afflicted and non-afflicted. However, doubting whether coarse karma and its results, the Three Jewels, and the coarse Four Noble Truths exist, mostly thinking they do not exist, is an afflicted and unwholesome doubt. Doubting the existence of subtle karma and its results, etc., which are very difficult to understand regarding what to accept and reject, such doubt becomes unspecified. Not knowing whether subtle karma and its results exist or not, but when others indicate their existence, having the thought of "do they exist?", such hesitant doubt turns into virtue. Combining the five views such as the view of the perishable into one, it is called afflicted view, and is classified as a root affliction, thus there are six root afflictions. Secondly, there are twenty secondary afflictions. The first is wrath, which is a mental factor of displeasure towards the harmer, and is imputed. The second is resentment, which is a mental factor of holding grudges against the previous harmer, not letting go. The third is concealment, which is a mental factor of secretly hiding faults. The term mental factor can also be applied elsewhere. The fourth is vexation, which is caused by wrath, leading to harsh words. The fifth is jealousy, which is inwardly disturbed by the perfections of others. The sixth is miserliness, which is tightly holding onto contaminated objects. The seventh is deceit, which makes faults invisible by transferring them to others. The eighth is cunning, which pretends to have qualities that one does not possess. The ninth is conceit, which is attachment and pride towards one's own possessions, etc. The tenth is malice, which is the desire to cause trouble by thinking of harming others. The eleventh is shamelessness, which is not refraining from faults due to oneself or the Dharma. The twelfth is lack of embarrassment, which is not fearing the faults of others' reproaches. The thirteenth is lethargy, which makes the body and mind dull. The fourteenth is excitement, which makes the mind
