That which is directed towards either the joyful aspect of the earth or the aspect of expressing the qualities of the essence of things, is because it is beneficial. Here there are nine threes, twenty-seven, because there are nine praises, nine honors, and nine adorations. Secondly, the dedication meditation path is explained by "completely dedicating the special," etc. This has two: the main part and the difference of the general dedication. The first part has two: the essence and the divisions. The first part exists because that Mahayana contaminated meditation path that thoroughly transforms the roots of virtue of oneself or others into complete enlightenment is its essence. The second part, if divided, has twelve, from the dedication meditation path with special actions as described above, to the dedication meditation path from which great merit arises, there are twelve. All twelve are encompassed by the three: bodhicitta, dedication, and wisdom, because generally, the bodhisattva's meditation path is never without these three, and even if there are those not directly encompassed by these three, here, in what is directly shown, it is necessary that it be directly encompassed by any of these three. It is not sufficient for the one who accumulates merit not to dedicate it to complete enlightenment himself, but only to be dedicated by others, because although bodhisattvas dedicate the roots of virtue of others to complete enlightenment, it is difficult for that alone to transform that root of virtue into a root of virtue dedicated to complete enlightenment. Secondly, explaining the difference of the general dedication, there are seven: the substance of dedication, the ground, the purpose, the companion, the essence, the need, and the explanation of the difference between dedication and aspiration. The first is because all the virtue of oneself and others is it. The second is because, although there are many in general, here it is dedicated to complete enlightenment. The third is because, although in general there is dedication to eliminate temporary obstacles and to liberate oneself from bad migrations and samsara, in this case it is dedicated for all sentient beings to attain complete enlightenment in common. The fourth is because it is dedicated through being grasped by the wisdom that realizes emptiness. The fifth is because it is placed in a special mind that transforms the root of virtue into the cause of a special object. The sixth is because it produces fruit.

Because it is for the sake of not exhausting and becoming vast. Seventh, there is a difference between dedication and aspiration. Aspiration is the mind of hope for the accomplishment of what is desired, regardless of whether there are offerings for dedication or not. Dedication is the mind that transforms the root of virtue with offerings into the cause of a special object. The two are not contradictory, because the mind of aspiration with offerings for dedication is both dedication and aspiration. Merely reciting the words of dedication and aspiration is not dedication and aspiration, just as merely reciting the words of refuge is not refuge. Third, with means and non-objectification, etc. In these sections, dedication belongs to the path of meditation, with nature, division, and purpose as three aspects. First, there is nature, which is the contaminated path of meditation of the Great Vehicle, which cultivates joy in the root of virtue of oneself or others, that is its nature. Second, there are two divisions, namely, there are two kinds by means of the characteristics of the assistant means and wisdom respectively. Third, there is a need, namely, cultivating joy in the virtue of others is for the sake of obtaining equal merit, and cultivating joy in one's own virtue is for the sake of increasing virtue. Although cultivating joy in the virtue of others, one can also obtain equal merit at the same time, it is not certain whether one will obtain equal merit in size, because cultivating joy in the virtue of the Buddhas and noble ones will not result in obtaining equal merit in size with their root of virtue and merit. It is possible to obtain equal or greater merit, because if some people do good deeds unwillingly or out of jealousy and competition, if others are sincerely happy and admire them from the bottom of their hearts, then it is possible to obtain equal or greater merit. Second, regarding the uncontaminated path of meditation, there are three aspects: nature, division, and the meaning of each division. First, there is nature, which is the path of meditation of the Great Vehicle that is free from the clinging awareness that holds that sound and meaning can be mixed, that is its nature. Second, there are two divisions, namely, the path of accomplishment meditation and the path of pure meditation. The first of these two is explained by "Its nature is the supreme nature," etc. The second is explained by "Buddha's teachings and giving, etc.," etc.
