If, as held, they are different, then without relying on the five aggregates, in a separate place, if it is inferred that a body can be held, then when the upper and lower limbs are separated, can this body be found? Furthermore, mountains, fences, houses, etc., their respective bases of imputation are earth, stone, wood, etc. Are all these, however many there are, the same, or are their essences regarded as different? If they are the same, then mountains, etc., become one, and likewise, earth, stone, wood, etc., become one, or the number of all earth, stone, wood, etc., becomes the same as mountains, etc. If their essences are different, then from earth, stone, etc., one by one, even when excluded to the other side, the former mountains, etc., this is that, if it is necessary to point out separately, then it does not exist. Furthermore, a chariot is merely imputed by thought on its own base of imputation, namely, the limbs. Apart from that, whether it is the same as the limbs, etc., or different, refute it by analysis. Or, from the arrangement of colors comes an image, or earth and stone are hammered, wood is gathered to form a forest, or a mouth and a base are gathered to be imputed as a vase, etc. Apart from being mere terms, there is no way they are established by nature, as before. Furthermore, that which is merely the general object of knowledge is also imputed on all phenomena, and likewise, on things, knowledge, etc., combine them and analyze whether they are one or different, and then refute them. In short, phenomena depend on their own parts, and the parts also depend on their own parts. Because it is a dependent arising established in this way, it is necessary to be certain of the reason for the lack of inherent existence. Through analysis, the meaning of what is imputed cannot be found. In the state of emptiness, maintain continuous certainty, and then abide. If attachment weakens, then again observe the way things appear, and alternately engage in analysis and meditation. Second, in the post-meditation state, when rising from equipoise, observe what appears. For persons, etc., merely what is established by name and symbol appears clearly in the mind, just a slight recollection, like illusory horses and cattle, although they appear, they are not actually established as such. When all these are analyzed, even if they cannot be found, only on the level of nominal recognition, like an illusion, think of them as a false appearance, a collection of appearance and emptiness, and understand conventional reality as illusory. Third, briefly understand how to establish nominal designations. For all phenomena, analyze and search with the intellect that examines ultimate truth.

Though unattainable, without investigation or analysis, in the conventional understanding, it is merely imputed by conceptual thought, established by the power of worldly renown that accords with meaning. For example, a chariot, on its own limbs, though it cannot be found by searching with the sevenfold reasoning, is established by worldly renown without analysis. As it is also said in the Madhyamakavatara: "It is not established by sevenfold reasoning whether it is its own nature or in the world, but without analysis, it is said to be established in the world, as people say it depends on its own limbs." If someone thinks that since there is imputation of a snake on a rope and a person on a stump, those snakes and so on should be truly existent, it is not the same, because worldly terms do not apply to snakes and people. The way in which I or mine is established on one's own aggregates by the power of conventional terms that accord with meaning is reasonable only in conventional illusion. Thus, all dharmas, in the ultimate sense, when analyzed by discriminating intelligence, do not exist in their own nature, but in general they are not non-existent, so in the conventional sense, acceptance and rejection, good and evil, actions and so on are very reasonable. Therefore, for dharmas that are empty of inherent existence, one should generate definite understanding of the way in which cause and effect and so on are established. Knowing this, one will attain the profound intention of the Buddhas, and immeasurable benefits are proclaimed. Having understood the teachings of the sutras and treatises, one should diligently practice. There are many scriptures as support for these, but here, for the sake of brevity, they are not cited, but only composed following the reasoning of the wise. May all beings, through the virtue of this excellent white virtue, through the practice of realizing profound dependent origination, completely grasp all the Buddha's excellent Dharma, and for the benefit of beings, quickly attain the supreme state of unsurpassed enlightenment. This was composed by the Shakya Bhikshu named Drakpa Shedrup at the request of the wise and learned Gyaltsen Palzangpo, who is skilled in both common and uncommon vehicles, and who urged that such verses be composed. Svasti! May all be auspicious! Vajradhara, the lord of all the victorious ones, who is well-known as Akshobhya, the protector, the Bhagavan who is the glory of the Abhirati realm, I respectfully prostrate to the feet of Akshobhya Buddha!
