Because they are the faculties of female and male. The life faculty, has the property. It is called faculty, because it dominates the similar continuation of the aggregates of sentient beings. The feeling faculties and, the five faculties of faith etc., have the property. It is called faculty, because it is intended to gradually dominate all afflictions and complete purification. The faculty of making the unknown knowable, and the faculty of knowing everything, and similarly the faculties of possessing complete knowledge, have the property. It is called faculty, because the former dominates the attainment of higher and higher states between the latter and nirvana without remainder, and so on, it can gradually abandon what is to be abandoned by the path of seeing and the path of meditation, and it can also dominate what has been abandoned. Second, regarding the determination of number. There are two schools of thought, the Vaibhashika and the Sautrantika. The first is: The basis of mind and its distinctions, places and the very nature of all afflictions, how many collections and purifications there are, so many are the faculties. It is said like this. This has two aspects, the meaning of the words and, the marginal examination. The first is, the Samkhyas and others say, the number of faculties is not determined to be twenty-two, because there are also the faculties of speech and limbs and genitals and poverty. If you say so, that fault does not apply, because the number of faculties is also established as many as there are causes that are the basis of the differences between the body and mind of sentient beings. Because, from the point of view of the basis or foundation of consciousness, the six faculties of eye etc. are established. From the point of view of distinguishing whether a sentient being is male or female, the two faculties of male and female are established. From the point of view of making the similar continuum of the aggregates of sentient beings exist, the life faculty is established. From the point of view of sentient beings acting on all afflictions and being able to dominate, the five faculties of feeling are established, that is, the fourteen faculties of the affliction side are established. From the point of view of the collection of causes of purification, the five faculties of faith etc. are established, and from the point of view of being born as the very nature of complete purification and possessing domination, the three undefiled faculties are established, because fourteen faculties are established from the point of view of the order of entering samsara, and eight faculties are established from the point of view of the order of reversal. Second, regarding marginal examination. Some say, the number of faculties is not determined to be twenty-two, because the faculty of speech etc. can perform the function of faculty. Because, speech

The mouth speaks, the hands take and place, the feet go and stay, the lower body enjoys pleasure, and the anus has the power to excrete feces. If it is said that way, it is unreasonable, because each one is uncertain. The reason is, look at learning to speak and motivation, and so on. Some animals also use their mouths and feet to lift and put things down. Snakes and fish, etc., can walk even without limbs. Bats also excrete feces from their mouths. Some say that in the assembly of Hearers, there are all three immaculate faculties, which is unreasonable, because the first immaculate faculty, the faculty of knowing all, is pervaded by the path of seeing; the second is the faculty of knowing all, which is pervaded by the path of meditation; and the third is the faculty of possessing all knowledge, which is pervaded by the path of no more learning. Second, the Sautrāntika's view is: Or the basis of entering and, birth and dwelling and near appropriation, fourteen thus reversed, the faculties are other. It is said that way. Or the faculties are determined to be twenty-two, because in terms of the basis of entering saṃsāra, there are six faculties such as the eye; in terms of being the cause of birth in saṃsāra, there are the two faculties of male and female; in terms of dwelling in the same kind, there is the faculty of life; in terms of enjoying the mother, there are the five faculties of feeling, a total of fourteen. Similarly, in terms of reversing from that, the other eight separate faculties are established. Third, in terms of essence, there is the explanation of the five faculties of feeling and the explanation of the three immaculate faculties. The first is: Bodily feeling not pleasant, suffering is the hero, the mind is, happiness is the third dhyāna, that of the mind is the faculty of happiness, the other is mental happiness, the mind's non-pleasantness, mental unhappiness is equanimity, intermediate because it does not belong to either. It is said that way. This has word meaning and, marginal analysis two. The first is: Knowable phenomena, have the characteristic of the faculty of suffering among the five divisions of feeling, because it is not pleasant, that is, happiness, but the bodily feeling that experiences suffering is it. Feeling has the characteristic of the faculty of happiness, because it is encompassed by either the bodily feeling that experiences pleasantness or the mental feeling of happiness that exists in the third dhyāna.
