If it is said that it is the abandonment of abandoning afflictions, then is that pervasive with the directly indicated abandonment here? If it is said like that, then the abandonment in the continuum of the Hearer and Solitary Realizer Arhat, has the property of being a thing. It follows. Because of that. It follows. Because the Hearer and Solitary Realizer Arhats abandoned those two. It follows. Because of that. It follows. Because that abandoned the darkness of afflictions, and abandoned the darkness that is not that. The first, it follows. Because he is an Arhat. The second, it follows. Because he abandoned in the manner of being separated from attachment to desiring that, but the distinction of not being completely destroyed is reasonable. It follows. Because in the auto-commentary it says, "Although it is desired to destroy all darkness, but it is not completely." If it is desired in the root, then it is unreasonable, because that abandonment is not a perfect abandonment. It follows. Because that is not the abandonment in the continuum of the Buddha. Pervasive, because for that directly indicated abandonment here, it is necessary to completely destroy the darkness that obscures all the dharmas of the twelve sources. It follows. Because it says, "Completely destroying all darkness." Some say, if it is the directly indicated darkness here, then is it pervasive with darkness? Then it is unreasonable, because if it is that, then it is pervasive with not being darkness. If it is that, then it must be obscuration. Pervasive, because in general, darkness is pervaded by external form. Furthermore, that is unreasonable, because here these two obscurations are merely named by that name in the way that they have similarities with darkness. It follows. Because of that. Just as darkness obscures seeing external forms clearly, these two obscurations obscure seeing the self and common characteristics of internal dharmas directly, therefore they are named in that way. Furthermore, in this case, if either of those two is abandoned, then it is not necessary to abandon completely, because if either of those two is abandoned, then it is not necessary to abandon it by making it a dharma that does not arise again. It follows. Because there are Arhats who have the nature of degeneration. It follows. Because of that. Because Arhats have degeneration from their own fruit. It follows. Because of that. Because five out of the nine Arhats, such as those with the nature of degeneration, will degenerate from their own fruit, and the four intermediate Arhats will degenerate from their own lineage, and the distinction that the first Stream Enterer will not degenerate from his own fruit is reasonable. Because of that.

Therefore, in the root text, it says, "The four are from lineage, the five are from result, not from the first degeneration." Some say: In this case, the abandonment of abandoning the obscuration of knowledge should become the perfection of abandonment. Because here, it is admitted that there is obscuration, which obscures seeing the state of knowable things well. If you say that, it is not pervasive. It cannot be admitted, because that does not call obscuration the obscuration of knowledge. Some say: If one degenerates from that quality, then it is pervasive to degenerate from obtaining it. If you say that, it is unreasonable. Because here, there are three ways of degenerating: obtaining that quality, not obtaining it, and degenerating from the near use of not manifesting it even though it is obtained. Therefore, in the sixth place, it says, "From obtaining and not obtaining, and from near use, there are three kinds of complete degeneration." Because it is said that way. There is a difference between the three, because the first of these three is the same as before, and if that quality is not obtained, it is established as degenerating from not obtaining, and if it is obtained but not manifested, it is established as degenerating from near use. For the latter, because the Sugata, although having attained cessation, does not manifest it. Because that is a person who has the five sense consciousnesses and coarse feelings. However, if that quality is not obtained, it is not certain to degenerate from that, because the basis for calculating obtaining and not obtaining is to take the person who can obtain as the basis. Some say: The four unknowing dharmas should be obscurations, because the four causes obscure seeing the four objects. If you say that, it is not pervasive. If it is not established, then because it obscures the realm, destination, place of birth, and difficult-to-understand things in the distant place, similarly, it obscures the object like the world realm separated by hundreds of thousands, and the long time separated by hundreds of thousands of kalpas, and seeing the classification of knowable things. It cannot be admitted in the root text, because the subtle differences of the Buddha's five uncontaminated aggregates are not obscurations. Some say: Among the direct disciples of this teaching, there are those who have not entered the path, because there are fortunate ones who have not entered the path. If you say that, it is not pervasive, that reason, because if it is not the time to enter the path, then it must be a fortunate one. If you admit it, it is unreasonable, because the fortunate one directly shown here must have a share of liberation born in the continuum.
