Therefore, when such is the case, wouldn't wise scholars comprehend the very path of understanding the meaning of dependent arising? How would they comprehend the essential point or ultimate essence of the teachings of the Protector? They would comprehend the essence of the teachings. To make it easier to understand, it's like how some people, regarding something easy to understand, might ask rhetorically, "Why don't they understand?" thus directing the meaning towards understanding. Similarly, this should be applied to other things as well. The path of understanding common and uncommon dependent arising is the essence of the teachings, as it is said in the Letter to a Friend: "Dependent arising is the Victorious One's, the treasure of the treasury of speech, profound." Therefore, it is said. Secondly, if it is said that the reason for praising you, Protector, through the way of teaching dependent arising, as mentioned above, is correct, then what door of praise, or place of praise, or method of praise could any wise person find that is more amazing than praising you, Protector, for teaching dependent arising? They cannot find it. That is to say, praising through the way of teaching dependent arising is more excellent than other praises. Considering this, the Holy One, in the homage of the Root Verses, said, "By dependent arising..." and in the Sixty Stanzas of Reasoning, said, "By birth..." etc., this is praising the teacher through the way of teaching dependent arising. Secondly, the actual praise is divided into two: general praise and specific praise. The first is divided into three points: praising the teacher himself as surpassing other speakers, the way of seeing and teaching dependent arising, and summarizing the meaning and explaining it. The first point is divided into three: teaching that speaking of dependent arising is the best instruction, showing its role as a means of cutting off elaborations, and praising that teaching dependent arising itself is the most excellent. The first point is: explained by the four lines beginning with "Whatever depends on conditions..." Whatever Dharma you, the Teacher, speak from your mouth, whatever depends on its own causes and conditions, that is, whatever arises dependently, is empty of inherent existence. What other more amazing, that is, more wonderfully amazing, way of instruction is there than this, which you spoke in the midst of the assembly? There is none. This is

The scriptures that explain emptiness as emptiness of inherent existence are shown to be superior to other scriptures. Words of wonder and amazement. Generally, it has usages such as praise and blame, but here it is taken in the first sense. This praise is from the Sutra Requested by Anavatapta: 'Whatever is born from conditions is unborn, because it does not have the nature of being born. Whatever depends on conditions is said to be empty. Whoever knows emptiness is mindful.' This is the meaning. The second is, it is shown by one verse such as 'Wherever clinging', the meaning is, by seeing the way that the result arises from the cause, wherever clinging to dependent origination, those who cling to the truth of cause and effect, and those who speak of the distinctions of those who have not entered and have entered these tenets, etc., these child-like realists, the place where the bonds of clinging to permanence are accustomed to their own minds is made very firm, that dependent origination is for the wise Madhyamikas, the door to cut off all the nets of clinging to extremes, is the supreme method. The term elaboration is generally the elaboration of convention, the elaboration of true establishment, the elaboration of discrimination, etc., but here it refers to the elaboration of discrimination. For example, the net is like a net that is intertwined with branches, etc., and the clinging to reality that is taught here actually refers to the law similar to the net. So, are those realist scholars also children? If not, then the saying 'children' here becomes irrelevant, and if so, then masters like Vasubandhu, Dignāga, Dharmakīrti, etc., would also become children. If you ask that, there is no fault. Because those people, whether they think or do not think that they are the children directly indicated here, in general, how could they be children? However, in relation to the wise Madhyamikas, those realists who cannot understand the meaning of emptiness of inherent existence can be regarded as similar to children, and this is intentional. In short, realists think that the result arises from the cause and cling to it as truly established, while the Madhyamikas think that the result depends on the cause and is established and arises, and if it does not depend on it, it will not arise, for this reason, they think that these are not established by nature. As it is said in the Root Wisdom: 'Because of dependence, there is.'
