Like the earth-holding root consciousness, it arises after the first moment and appears as a clear image, but it is like a mental consciousness from which certainty cannot be drawn. Self-awareness is as stated in the Commentary on Valid Cognition: "Constantly appearing inwardly to myself, there is no aspect of knower or known." It is like an apprehending aspect that only faces inward, experiencing what was previously apprehended. Yogic direct perception refers to all the wisdoms that directly realize the truth of their own objects, whether subtle or coarse, through the power of yoga, without relying on signs. That is, all the wisdoms in the continuum of the noble ones that directly realize selflessness. The meaning of the words is: The five, such as the eye consciousness that apprehends form, are the subject. You are called root direct perception because you are the direct perception born from your own uncommon dominant condition, that is, any of the five sense faculties such as the eye faculty. The mental consciousness that knows the minds of others in the continuum of ordinary beings is the subject. You are called mental direct perception because you are the direct perception born only from the dominant condition of the mental faculty. The apprehending aspect that experiences the eye consciousness is the subject. You are called self-aware direct perception because you are aware of the object that has become your own nature in an inward-looking manner. The wisdom of the noble ones who directly realize selflessness is the subject. You are called yogic direct perception because you are the direct perception that realizes the truth, whether subtle or coarse, through the power of yoga, without relying on signs. The second part is divided into two: definition and classification. First, the valid cognition that, relying on its own reliable basis, a sign, is newly non-deceptive with respect to its object of measurement, a hidden phenomenon, is the definition of inferential valid cognition. Second, dividing it according to the type of expression, there are two types: self-benefiting inference and other-benefiting inference. The first and inference have the same meaning, and the example is: Because there is smoke over there, there must be fire, like the inference that realizes there is fire on the mountain with smoke from the sign of smoke. The second is: Whatever is made is pervaded by impermanence. For example, like a pot, sound is also made, like the statement of proof, it is merely nominally established as inference.

Furthermore, if we divide inference by categories, there are four types: inference by the power of reality, inference by trust, inference by analogy, and inference by reputation. The first is like the inference that sound is impermanent from the sign of being produced. The second is like the inference that scriptures purified by the three examinations are not deceptive in their meaning, such as the statement that generosity leads to prosperity and keeping moral discipline leads to higher realms. The third is like the inference that something is a cow and not a yak from signs such as horns, eyes, humps, and dewlaps. The fourth is like the inference that the moon can be referred to by the term "hare-marked." The reason for calling it inference is that it infers and ascertains what is to be proven after certainty about the property of the subject and the pervasive relation, and therefore it is called that. If it is direct perception, it must be free from conceptualization. If it is inference, it must be conceptualization. The conceptualization to be abandoned is the conceptualization that apprehends sound and meaning as being able to be mixed. As it is said in Thar Lam Sal Jed and Rig Gyam Chen Mo: When the general sound and the general meaning of that dharma are taken as objects, it is apprehending sound and meaning as being able to be mixed. The reason for saying "able to be mixed" is to include the conceptualizations of children who are not familiar with terms, whose conceptualizations take either sound or meaning as an object, but cannot take both sound and meaning together as an object. However, in De Dun Mun Sel, it is said that "sound and meaning" refers to the general meaning itself, and that the general sound and the general meaning are separated. It is necessary to examine this carefully. Since the objects to be measured are definitely two, self-character and general-character, the valid cognitions are definitely two, direct perception and inference. This is because direct perception is established from the aspect of the object to be measured, the self-character, being the actual object, and inference is established from the aspect of the object to be measured, the general-character, being the actual object. As it is said in the Commentary on Valid Cognition: "Since the objects to be measured are two, the valid cognitions are two." If it is a mistaken consciousness, it is not a valid cognition, because it is not pervasive. Because inference, although mistaken in its appearing object, does not contradict being a valid cognition. As it is said in the Commentary on Valid Cognition: "Although mistaken, it is still a valid cognition." Here, valid cognition is taken to be a consciousness that measures an object. But in general, a person is a valid cognition,
