Because unerring practice also depends on unerring understanding. As it is said. Again, some say that although it is necessary to listen, it is not necessary to listen much, because the way in which those who have listened much and those who have listened little attain the result when they enter into practice is the same. If so, that is also a perverse statement. In the Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path, it says: Therefore, the more one listens, the more wisdom arises from it, and the more one thinks, and the more one thinks, the more wisdom arises from it. And so on. In the Collected Works, it says: Because it is said that a temporary result is achieved for the temporary, and a complete result for the complete. Who among the wise would be satisfied with only one aspect? Because it is said that there is a difference. Furthermore, not only is it necessary to listen, but it is also necessary to listen much, because saying that much listening is not necessary for practicing the path without error is also nonsense, because without listening and thinking, the wisdom arising from meditation will not arise, as it is said in the Abhidharma. As it is said in the Stages of the Path: The nonsense that much listening is not necessary for traversing the path without error will also become well-spoken. And so on. In the Great Commentary on the Eight Thousand Verses, it says: Because by the order of the arising of the wisdom that is the nature of listening, thinking, and meditating, one realizes the omniscient wisdom. As it is said. Therefore, the purpose of listening is not only to attain Buddhahood, but also to generate wisdom temporarily, because wisdom is the basis for accomplishing many temporary and ultimate qualities. As the Protector Nagarjuna said: These qualities, seen and unseen, the root of all is wisdom. Therefore, in order to accomplish both, wisdom should be fully grasped. The source of Dharma, desire, and liberation is great knowledge. Therefore, first with respect, the great mother of wisdom should be grasped. As it is said. The Teacher Hero said: Doing only diligence is the end of fatigue, if protected by the friend of wisdom, great meaning is accomplished. As it is said. Someone says: It is true that one needs to listen and contemplate the inner sciences, but one does not need to listen and contemplate the outer sciences such as grammar, poetry, and mathematics.

That is also unreasonable. Unless you say that it is not allowed because you cannot study and contemplate those yourself, otherwise, it contradicts both scriptural and logical reasoning. Contradicting scriptural reasoning: The venerable Maitreya Natha said in the Ornament of the Sutras: "If one does not become proficient in the five sciences, even the noble ones will not become omniscient. Therefore, in order to subdue others, to take them in, and to understand everything themselves, they strive for it." Sakya Pandita also said: "Even if one is to die tomorrow, one must study the sciences." Because whether one is a sentient being or a noble being, one must study the sciences. Contradicting logical reasoning: Because there are no noble ones who have practiced the path of those sciences. If there were, then it would follow that they are foolish, and it would become necessary to condemn the great Tibetan Panchen Lamas for studying many sciences, saying that this way is unreasonable. The first constant is established. The omniscient Ngawang Lobsang Gyatso said: "Even if one has realized the noble path, one must want to be proficient in the five sciences, otherwise, the fault of those noble ones being foolish will arise." Also, he himself said: "If one does not know any of the scriptures that show the qualities of contemplation, but claims to be a Buddha and a Buddha's son, then the classification of cause and effect is certainly false." Also, he himself said: "On the vast path guided by the king of wisdom, if the dawn of scripture and reason has not risen, the state of those realized steeds galloping, is a holy person who does not understand cause and effect, it is truly amazing." The second reason is established. If they should not be condemned, then, because we ourselves should also emulate those wise ones, doing the work of following them. Furthermore, it is very unreasonable to think that way, because in the Vinaya, in the context of the twenty-one five aggregates, it is also said that for the sake of the merit of much learning, one must also learn many non-Buddhist scriptures. And, the so-called common sciences, it is also established that both internal and external must be studied, just like food. Again, someone says, internal and external common

Even if one studies Mongolian culture, it will not become a cause for attaining Buddhahood because it is common. If you think so, that is not reasonable. Even if it is a common culture, both internal and external, if it is seized by the aspiration of the one who listens and contemplates, it will become a cause for attaining Buddhahood. As it is said in the Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path, "All of these are sought for the sake of attaining Buddhahood, and there is no difference." Because it is said that the five sciences must be listened to and contemplated for the sake of attaining Buddhahood. The Omniscient Losang Gyatso also said, "Even mundane knowledge, if it is seized by the calculation of the Mahayana aspiration, will become the cause of unsurpassed enlightenment." If it is not like that, then giving food to others will not be a method for attaining Buddhahood, because it is not only common to both internal and external, but also common to ordinary people. If you say that, what will you say? The other party says: There is no fault. Because through the seizing of aspiration, even giving a mouthful of food and alcohol to something like a crow can become a cause for Buddhahood. If you say that, then for the other side, it is the same in all aspects. In short, as it is said, "Faith and discipline, listening and giving, etc.", listening is also included in the seven noble riches, so listening is very important, especially the followers of Je Tsongkhapa should strive to listen to a large number of scriptural words and meanings. The one known as Omniscient Yeshe arises from the power of listening, thinking, and meditating, and is one who knows all phenomena as they are and as many as they are, and does not arise from the cause of ignorance. The other party says: Even without the qualities of scriptural transmission, many holy beings with the qualities of realization appear, how is that? There is no fault. Some are because of the power of listening and thinking in previous lives, and signs of realization appear. Some special individuals, although showing the appearance of ordinary people, outwardly do not have the qualities of scriptural transmission, but in reality it is not so. And most of them are, the Omniscient Fifth Dalai Lama said, "An ignorant outcaste child, adorned with silk, on a high throne, proudly standing in the midst of a foolish retinue, supports the Buddha's doctrine with yak hair."
