In short, regarding the meaning of what is said in the Vinaya that renunciation is necessary as the cause for obtaining the Pratimoksha vows, when the Khenpo and Acharya have well explained the faults of samsara and the benefits of liberation, if that person develops a firm mind or understanding of wanting to abandon samsara and wanting to attain liberation, then it is also said that this can become renunciation. Therefore, it is clear that there are also differences between primary and secondary renunciation. Therefore, whenever the thought of wanting to be liberated from the general suffering of samsara arises, then renunciation arises. However, when one is particularly afflicted by a king, disease, evil spirits, enemies, etc., it is not enough to merely have the thought of wanting to be liberated from that. However, it is clear that this can serve as a condition for the arising of pure renunciation, for example, like the two nephews of the Venerable Ananda. Because it is said that virtuous deeds done under the control of appearances do not become the cause of liberation, but only of samsara. Without being grasped by the thought of renunciation, no matter what Dharma of Sutra or Tantra is practiced, it can only become the cause of higher rebirth, let alone becoming a Buddha, it is difficult to even become the cause of liberation, so I think it is very important to strive for this. These are in terms of the path common to the intermediate being. Second, explaining Bodhicitta, there are two parts: the reasons for generating Bodhicitta and the actual way to generate it. The first part is: A person who wants to accomplish omniscience must generate Bodhicitta. As mentioned above, even if renunciation has arisen, if the generosity etc. grasped by it are not grasped by Bodhicitta, although it can become the cause of liberation, it will not be transformed into a special cause for accomplishing Buddhahood. Just as it says in the sutra: "If renunciation is not grasped by pure Bodhicitta, it will not be transformed into the cause of unsurpassed, perfect bliss, the wise should generate the supreme Bodhicitta." Furthermore, those who want to become Buddhas must generate Bodhicitta, because Bodhicitta is the unique cause for attaining Buddhahood. For example, the seed of barley is its unique cause, and the father is the unique cause of the son. It is indeed so, because the wisdom that realizes emptiness etc. are mostly

If one is seized by the thought of seeking enlightenment in any of the three vehicles, it can lead to that particular enlightenment. However, the mind of enlightenment becomes the cause for proceeding to the enlightenment of the Buddha, and will not become anything else. Therefore, to become a Mahayana practitioner, one must generate this mind. This is because it is the gateway to entering the Great Vehicle. If this mind arises in one's being, even if there are no other qualities, one is still considered a Mahayana practitioner. If this mind does not arise, even if one possesses other qualities, one will not become a Mahayana practitioner. This is because whether or not one is a Mahayana practitioner is determined by whether or not one has generated this mind. This is stated in the Great and Small Stages of the Path, and so on. When the mind of enlightenment arises in one's own being, whether or not one has other qualities, one obtains the name "Son of the Conquerors, Bodhisattva," and the name is meaningful. One becomes an object of veneration for beings, including gods. As it is said in the Bodhicaryavatara: "The moment the mind of enlightenment is born, those who are helpless, bound in the prison of samsara, are called the sons of the Sugatas, and are worthy of worship by the world with its gods and humans." Furthermore, this mind can also overpower even the most powerful negative actions. As it is said in the Bodhicaryavatara: "What other virtue can overcome extremely unbearable, powerful negative actions, if not the perfect mind of enlightenment?" Similarly, the Sutra of the Arrayed Tree and other scriptures speak of the immeasurable benefits of generating the mind of enlightenment. Secondly, there is the manner of generating the mind of enlightenment. A person who sees such benefits contemplates how he himself wanders in samsara, thinking: Alas! From beginningless time until now, these beings who have been my mothers and have repeatedly cared for me with kindness are also carried by the four rivers of birth, old age, sickness, and death into the ocean of samsara. They are tightly bound by the ropes of black and white karma, completely trapped in the cage of the iron net of self-grasping, and in the darkness of ignorance, they are constantly tormented by the suffering of suffering, the suffering of change, and the suffering of conditioning in the place of samsara. Having thought in this way, driven by great compassion,
