Then, he composed the treatises on Samkhya. After that, due to the differences in my views, other schools of non-Buddhists branched out into many divisions. Second, the meaning of the name is: because it is a sect other than the Buddhist, it is called "outsider." Because its doctrine is outside of Buddhism, it is called "externalist." Because they enter the bathing place, set up a platform inside, and enter there, saying it is a method to be born in a good rebirth, it is called "non-Buddhist practitioner." Third, explaining them separately: Generally speaking, from the perspective of views, there are twenty-five. If divided even more extensively, there are five hundred and seventy views. Furthermore, there are three hundred and sixty-three roots of views, one hundred and ten. There are ninety-six kinds of strange views, etc. Although there are many divisions, they can be summarized into two: annihilationism and eternalism. Therefore, these two are explained: annihilationists and eternalists. The first is divided into two: stating their views and refuting them. The first is divided into three: teacher, meaning of the name, and tenets. The teachers are Purana Kassapa, Ajita Kesakambali, and Makkhali Gosala. Because they say that the stream of self is cut off at the time of death, they are called annihilationists. Because they say that the next world and the results of actions mostly do not exist, they are called non-existentists. Because they follow Purana Kassapa, they are called the Purana Kassapa school. Because they have deviated from accepting the correct view, they are called Lokayata. However, it is also possible that they believe in past and future lives. Even if there are views different from those of the Lokayata, they are unreasonable. Second, the tenets are: As it is said in the Pramanavarttika, "For example, the sharpness of thorns, etc., is without cause." And Shantarakshita said, "The variety of lotus stamens, etc., who made them? The variety of peacock feathers, etc., who painted them?" etc., just as expressing the views of the Lokayata. The sharpness of thorns arises without anyone making them with their hands, etc., so they believe that even without a cause, there will be a result. Similarly, they believe that the feathers of peacocks and the shapes of beans, etc., arise without any cause. Furthermore, in this life, some misers are rich, and some generous people are poor, and some who practice Dharma suffer, and some who commit evil are seen to be happy, seeing these, they consider good and evil

Some people believe that the results of karma are not true, and some believe that there are past and future lives. They believe that just as planting barley will definitely grow barley, and planting wheat will definitely grow wheat, without relying on other causes and conditions, gods become gods after death, and humans become humans after death. Some believe that sprouts are produced without a cause or naturally, while pottery pots and the like are produced from a cause. Among these people, those who say there is no afterlife, their treatises say: 'As much as there are objects of the senses, that is all there is to a person.' etc., and 'This excellent body will not bring you anything, this body is just an aggregate.' Like this, because they do not want to speculate, they think that what the senses of the eyes can directly experience now is me, and there is no me other than that. Because they think like this, when the body is destroyed, I am also destroyed, and the continuum is cut off, therefore they say there is no afterlife. Second, refuting this bad view, the venerable Chandrakirti said: 'If it were to arise from no cause alone, then everything would always arise from everything.' etc., and 'If beings were empty of cause, then like the sky.' etc., and 'How can those who have thick darkness in their minds correctly understand the afterlife?' etc., Pramāṇavārttika says: 'Whatever exists, whatever arises, or whatever changes, whatever changes, that can be said to be its cause.' etc., Teacher Śīlabhadra says: 'For the mind before being in the womb.' etc., Śāntarakṣita says: 'Therefore, the initial consciousness arises from the power of its own immediate cause.' etc., Śāntarakṣita also says: 'The moment of consciousness at the time of death can generate its own immediate cause.' etc., Madhyamakahrdaya says: 'The mind of death and transmigration of non-aryas, must be the generation of other minds, because it is accompanied by ignorance, just like generating that mind.' etc., Teacher Hero says: 'Wisdom is said to be the understanding of knowable objects, therefore it is thought that there is an object of wisdom before being in the womb.' etc., Śīlabhadra says: 'Calves also look for food as soon as they are born because they are used to it.' etc., Pramāṇavārttika.
