It causes the attainment of excellent higher realms. This is how it is said. Incidentally, to explain the reason for the occurrence of other auspicious times: Well, how is it that now, every month, there are three auspicious times on the eighth, fifteenth, and thirtieth days? Some scholars believe that the eighth is the day when the Medicine Buddha, the fifteenth is the day when Shakyamuni Buddha, and the thirtieth is the day when Amitabha Buddha appear for the benefit of sentient beings. Some believe that it is because the signs of the waxing and waning of the moon are most evident on these three days: on the eighth, the moon waxes by half; on the fifteenth, the moon is full; and on the thirtieth, all the white part of the moon wanes. The half of the waning that occurs during the day is not counted because it is not visible. Some other texts say that as the Four Great Kings vowed to protect the world, on the fifteenth, the Four Great Kings themselves come to the world; on the thirtieth, the sons of the Four Great Kings come to the world; and on the eighth, the servants of the Four Great Kings come to the world. It seems that there are also such views, but in any case, I think there is no contradiction. In general, whatever good or bad deeds are done on those festivals and auspicious times, their effects are magnified. In particular, the good deeds done are more powerful. Among them, the effects are especially magnified on the four great festivals. As it is said: Thus, on the four great festivals, even a little bit of good done is said to be multiplied by a hundred million. If those are carefully calculated, offering even a handful of barley with pure intention, or giving or offering as alms, because it will be multiplied by a hundred million, the result of offering eight hundred thirty-three thousand three hundred thirty-three khals of barley, and six bre and four phuls, is what the Victorious One himself has said will occur. Thus it is said. Seventh, it is necessary to know the classification of seasons because it dispels the ignorance of being confused about years, months, days, and times, and it becomes possible to understand the meaning of the classification of those as explained in the scriptures, to be skilled in the time for doing sojong and other activities, and especially to know which is a festival, so that the good deeds done will increase. Therefore, it is necessary to know the classification of seasons. Said: By the power of the Buddha and common karma, the differences in the arrangement of the container and its contents, years, months, days, and times, all the various similarities and dissimilarities that exist.
