Okay. The meaning of these is, as stated in Nāgārjuna's own commentary on the Essence of Dependent Arising: For example, when the words spoken by a guru are transferred to a disciple, it is not that the guru's words disappear; if that were the case, they could not be transferred. The words spoken by the disciple are also not unrelated to the guru's words, because that would result in causelessness. Just as with the words spoken by a guru, so too is it with the mind at the time of death; if the mind at the time of death were permanent, it would become a fault of permanence, and therefore it would not go to the next world. The next world also does not arise from something else, because that would result in the fault of causelessness. Therefore, just as one cannot say that the words spoken by the guru are the disciple himself or unrelated to the disciple, so too is it with the mind that belongs to the category of rebirth, which arises in dependence on the mind at the time of death; one cannot say that it is the same self or different from it. Similarly, just as with a lamp arising from a lamp, and as with an echo arising from a sound, those are also not easy to understand as being the same or different. Likewise, the connection of aggregates is also to be understood by the wise as not being transferred. As it is said. To express the meaning of these in a condensed and easily understandable way, for example, when a guru teaches a disciple to recite something like "Namo Buddhāya" (藏文:ན་མོ་བུདྡྷ་ཡ་,梵文天城体:नमो बुद्धाय,梵文罗马拟音:Namo Buddhāya,汉语字面意思:皈依佛) from memory, and the disciple memorizes it and recites it, the guru's words are not transferred into the disciple's mouth; if that were the case, the guru would not be able to say those words again. The disciple's recitation, which is in accordance with the guru's words, does not arise without relying on the guru's words, because that would result in causelessness. Similarly, at the time of rebirth after death, the consciousness at the time of death is not transferred unchanged in essence to the consciousness of the next life; if that were the case, it would become permanent, and therefore rebirth would be unreasonable. The consciousness of the next life does not arise without relying on the consciousness at the time of death; if it did, the consciousness of the next life would become causeless. Even so, just as the disciple's words arise from the cause of the guru's words, so too does the consciousness of the next life arise from the continuum of the previous consciousness. Just as the guru's words and the disciple's words cannot be mixed together, so too is it with the consciousness at the time of death in this life and the continuum of the next life.
