Therefore, if it is determined that it is not established as one, that is the key to determining the truth of being separate from one. Fourth, if you think that it cannot be one, then such a self is different from the two, body and mind. In general, merely in name, I can be considered different from the two, body and mind, but if, as before, that self that does not depend on others is established as different from body and mind, it is not permissible. If so, it becomes a difference established by its own nature, and therefore becomes a difference that is completely unrelated. Just as one can distinguish between body and mind, thinking, "This is the body," "This is the mind," after separately excluding body and mind, one must be able to grasp "This is me," but that is not the case, because I am designated on the basis of the aggregation of body and mind. Analyzing in this way and gaining certainty is the key to determining the truth of being separate from two. Alternatively, the five aggregates (form, etc.) can be used instead of the two, body and mind. It is said that by analyzing the four key points in this way, if, as before, one does not find a self-established, solid self, but it is completely empty, then one has attained the view of the Middle Way. Second, one must first recognize that on one's own body, without relying on the collection of limbs, the body as a whole appears to be established from the outside. Then, grasp that body as it appears. Is that body one with the limbs, or different? If it is the former, it is unreasonable. If it is only one with the general collection of limbs, then the body and limbs would become one, and in that case, all actions and agents would also become one. If it is one with each individual limb, then just as there are many limbs, the body would also have many parts. If it is different, that is also unreasonable. In general, the body and limbs are the same in essence, but different in aspect. But if that body, grasped as before, is different from the limbs, then the body must be established without relying on them. Therefore, after separately excluding the limbs, there would still be a complete body. Similarly, this can be applied to other phenomena such as pillars and vases. Second, just as one first establishes the selflessness of persons, if one clearly determines that there is no self, one should continuously maintain certainty on the non-affirming negation that merely refutes the object to be refuted, and abide in that. If the strength weakens, one should do a little analysis of the four key points, and then abide in the thought that it is not established in that way. The previous quiet
