Endowed with supreme and excellent qualities, many monks are peaceful and gentle. I am Gina Malaka, having come here as a messenger to abide in the teachings. Therefore, you must go. He said: Now is not the time to go to the Ganges' shore. When the protector, the lamp of beings, was alive, I had the intention to go. However, he has passed into complete peace. How could a wise person go to those worlds? Please give these three things, the begging bowl and robes, to the Sangha. I will go to peace, without rebirth. I ask the noble ones to forgive my intention. Having said this, he displayed miraculous powers and passed away. His body was burned by self-arising fire, and from it flowed four streams of water, from which four verses arose: Now times have become bad, sentient beings rely on their own karma. The lamp of beings has passed away, realize that all will enter into destruction. Accumulated compounded things will perish in an instant, birth and so on are full of suffering and affliction. Ordinary people are arrogant with ego, know that these are without substance. The wise should always be mindful with contemplation, and strive to do meritorious deeds in mind. All collections of elements have gone and perished, and the glory of life is fleeting. I bow down to the supreme mind of the Sage, having accomplished all my own intentions. With reverence and great faith, following the footsteps of the Lama, I too will go in this way. Then, the Ganges shore person, through miraculous power, prostrated in the assembly of the Sangha, offered the begging bowl and so on, and having heard that the Protector had passed away, he went into complete peace through the power of merit. This is his begging bowl and robes, please Sangha, remember this and forgive. Then, Mahakashyapa said: Listen, monks! How he passed away with the conduct of a noble one. Others should not go into complete peace like him. Therefore, do what is necessary as long as it is needed, and discuss it in the assembly of powerful ones. Just as the mind of Shirshaka, the excellent ox-king, became the basis of meritorious deeds. You should not think like him, but for the benefit of beings, you should brainstorm in the assembly. Having established the precepts in this way, he said: Here, the Dharma's
