In short, by subduing afflictions, one can manifest Dharma and meaning. Relying on manifestation, through mutually related speech, one determines, thereby fully enjoying the Dharma arising from it, abiding in touching happiness, and thus, in order to master the nature of phenomena such as the characteristics of self and generality of all dharmas. Like this, by hearing the three pitakas, one can leave imprints. By thinking, one can understand the meaning. By meditating, with calm abiding, one pacifies the afflictions of the mind, and with insight, one thoroughly comprehends the nature of phenomena, thereby liberating from the seeds. Considering these, the Ornament of Sutras says: The pitakas, whether three or two, are acceptable, because they are comprehensive, so they are considered to be nine causes. Its imprints, understanding, tranquility, and thorough comprehension lead to complete liberation. So it is said. Fourth, in the Ornament of Sutras it says: Sutras, Abhidharma, and Vinaya, in short, the meaning is considered to be four kinds. Those with intelligence, knowing these, attain omniscience. Therefore, meaning refers to word meaning or etymology, and explaining it as nature is incorrect. Bodhisattvas with intelligence, by knowing all three pitakas, attain omniscience. Hearers attain the fruit by knowing the meaning of a single verse, like Shariputra or the steadfast small path. Among these, the Sanskrit (Sūtra, Sūtra, meaning: thread) of Sutra refers to what is said at the beginning, such as saying the place "in Rajagriha," saying the nature such as "the nature of earth is hardness," and saying the words of Dharma and saying the meaning, so it is Sutra. Such a collection is a pitaka. Because it speaks of places, natures, and Dharma meanings, it is a Sutra. So it is said. The Sanskrit (Abhi, Abhi, meaning: about) of Abhidharma, of which "Abhimukhya" (Abhimukhya, Abhimukhya, meaning: facing) means manifestation, that is, truly manifesting, so it is Abhidharma, Abhidharma is nature. "Abhikṣaṇa" (Abhikṣaṇa, Abhikṣaṇa, meaning: repeatedly) means again and again, that is, repeatedly explaining from various angles such as aggregates, elements, sense bases, real existence, imputed existence, so it is Abhidharma, that is, treatises. "Abhibhū" (Abhibhū, Abhibhū, meaning: overpowering) means overpowering, thereby, by knowing all the natures of the self and generality of all dharmas, one determines with sufficient speech, thereby overpowering others, or overpowering evil speech. "Abhisamaya" means

That is, realization. Knowing all knowable things, such as real and imputed existences, is the manifestation of realization. For the sake of manifestation and repeated manifestation, for the sake of subduing and realizing, hence it is the Dharma of manifestation. Thus it is said. The Vinaya, in Sanskrit called "vinaya," where "vi" means "vivitti," which means various downfalls. The Vinaya is that which explains and determines downfalls, etc. Or, "viniścaya," which means various determinations, hence it is called the Vinaya, etc. Two sets of four verses are spoken: downfall, arising, and ascending; determined arising and the individual; establishment and good distinction; and various determinations, hence it is the Vinaya. Thus it is said. Fifth, in the Ornament of the Sutras, it is said that either is acceptable, meaning that those who incline towards the inferior are the Hearers' Vehicle, and those who incline towards the vast are the Great Vehicle. The difference between the Great and Small Vehicles lies in whether they possess the seven greatnesses. Or, as stated in the Summary of the Great Vehicle: the place of knowledge and its nature, entering into it, its cause and effect, its good distinction, the three trainings, its result of abandonment, and wisdom, the supreme vehicle is exceedingly superior. Thus it is. Therefore, the extremely extensive collection of the Hearers' Vehicle refers to the Sutra section with an extremely large and extensive number of chapters. The extremely extensive collection of the Great Vehicle refers to the fact that the vehicle itself is extensive in the manner of definitive words, hence it is extremely extensive. Possessing hundreds of thousands of verses, etc., hence it is the Great Dharma. For the sake of the benefit of all sentient beings, generating the mind of perfect enlightenment, hence it is the Great Generation of the Mind. Inclining towards the extremely profound and vast Dharma, hence it is the Great Inclination. Obtaining the thought of equality between self and others, hence it is the Great Thought. On the grounds, accumulating immeasurable collections of merit and wisdom in each moment, hence it is the Great Collection. Striving for three countless eons, hence it is the Great Time. Accomplishing the Buddha's body, which is not common to all sentient beings, hence it is the Great Accomplishment. Possessing these seven greatnesses, hence it is the Great Vehicle. In the Ornament of the Sutras, these seven greatnesses appear slightly differently. Furthermore, those of dull faculties incline towards the cause, taking the cause as the path, which is the Causal Vehicle. Those of sharp faculties incline towards the spontaneous accomplishment of cause and effect, taking the result as the path, which is the Resultant Vajra Vehicle. As stated in the King of Sutras, the Empowerment of Instructions: Manjushri.
