It is easy, easy to explain, easy to understand, and with reverence for the Dharma, one quickly perfects all accumulations, quickly realizes the nature of reality, gains faith upon knowing the Buddha, gains faith upon knowing the Dharma and Sangha, touches the supreme state of dwelling in bliss in this very life, and by establishing with fluent speech, makes the minds of the noble ones rejoice, and is counted among the wise as "wise." The category of verses spoken in song is: In the Sutra Pitaka itself, verses are spoken in song in the middle and at the end, or by understanding the Sutra Pitaka of straightforward meaning, it is spoken in song. The category of prophecies is: Prophecies about the passing away of the Hearers, what was done at the time of death, and what will happen in the future, such as the White Lotus of the Sacred Dharma. Or, in order to prophesy the intention by distinguishing the Sutra Pitaka of definitive meaning, it is therefore the category of prophecies. The category of verses is: Spoken by joining in verses, such as the two-line verse: "This Bhikshu is the teacher, he is peaceful and his outflows are exhausted." And like the three-line verse: "Here there is no self or sentient being, nor is there life, this dharma arises from causes and conditions." And like the four-line verse: "All dharmas arise from causes." And so on, like the five-line verse and the six-line verse: "These are all appearances of delusion, like experiencing a dream. When awakened from the sleep of the darkness of ignorance, the appearances of samsara are nowhere to be seen. Therefore, for some, the wisdom of no-birth is Buddhahood." This is an example. The category of specially spoken is: In the Commentary on Reasoning, it says: "It is not spoken for the sake of a person, but whatever is spoken solely for the sake of the Dharma remaining." Whatever is spoken with joy, for example, when the Thubpa purified the field of the vessel and its contents, the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, said, "Taming is good, pacifying is good," and so on. The category of the basis of discussion is: What is spoken for the sake of certain people, and the precepts that are established along with the events. For example, establishing the precept of not taking what is not given for those with wealth. The category of expressing realization is: What is spoken with examples, because it makes the meaning clear.

O! The division that arises in that way is one that possesses past connections, like the story of the emaciated Gautami. The division of the stories of incarnations is that which shows the conduct of the Bodhisattva, like the biography of Liberating All. The extremely extensive division is that which possesses the Bodhisattva's collection, because it teaches the Dharma in a manner that is beneficial and a place of happiness for all sentient beings, and is extensive, vast, and profound. Because it completely shatters all obscurations, it is called "completely shattering." Because it is unlike any other, it is called "unequaled." Because it possesses the seven greatnesses, it is called the "Great Vehicle." The wondrous division is that which teaches the amazing and wondrous Dharma of the Hearers, Bodhisattvas, and Buddhas. The division that teaches the established is that in which the characteristics of the Dharma are taught without error, thus explaining the meaning of the Sutras and so forth. Fourth, the three collections: In this, there are the twelve branches that are condensed into the three collections, as well as the definition of the collections, the reason for establishing the three collections, and the definitions of each of the collections. First, the five - Sutra, Song, Prophecy, Verse, and Self-utterance - are the collection of the Hearer's Sutra collection. The section on the basis of discussion is the main part of the Vinaya collection, which speaks of the precepts along with their origins. The three Jataka tales that occurred in that way are its retinue, so these four are the Vinaya collection. The extremely extensive section and the wonderful section are the Bodhisattva Sutra collection, because the special power of the Bodhisattvas and Buddhas is inconceivable and has extensive characteristics, so the wonderful is also included in the Bodhisattva's Sutra collection. The section on establishing the definitive is the Abhidharma collection of both the Great Vehicle and the Hearers. This method of compilation is according to the system of the Compendium of Topics. There are also other explanations elsewhere. Second, in Sanskrit it is called Piṭaka, and if translated by a Paṇḍita, it is a heap or collection, meaning that many meanings are collected as the subject matter, or all that is to be known is collected as the subject matter, therefore it is a collection. Alternatively, Piṭaka is the name of a large container in the central region, and a small container is placed inside the large container.
