Therefore, after twenty-five days, all the hail melted. Just as the crops were beginning to sprout ears, a hailstorm struck, destroying all the crops. He wrote on a wooden sign, "Hail comes twice a year," and planted the sign there, which surprised everyone. At that time, his mother loaded two bags full of dyes onto a donkey and urged it to hurry, saying, "Now the son has messed things up again. I won't accept this son who can't even make it in his own homeland. Now, go wherever you feel comfortable and see if you can accomplish some sacred Dharma." That was the message that came. At that time, Yungton Trogyal also said that he and others had accumulated a great deal of sin, so it was necessary to practice the Dharma. Nubchung also said that it was very important to do so. The two lamas gave him gifts such as woolen cloth and sent him to meet Tsang Rongton Lhaga. He offered the gifts and met Rongton. Gyerton asked him where he came from. He replied that he came from Trogyal and Nubchung. Gyerton said, "Alas, the hail has caused many people to suffer." He requested Gyerton to keep him in mind because of his great sins. Gyerton said, "It is good that you have come here. My profound Dharma of the Great Perfection, inner realization is inner Buddhahood, night realization is night Buddhahood. For those with good fortune and karma, there is a profound Dharma that liberates without the need for practice, so there is no need to be afraid." Then he gave instructions. In Nyangto Khare, he received many teachings such as the Guhyagarbha Tantra from Khami Jangchub Gyalpo. In Yarlung, he heard many teachings on Sutra and Mind from Marpa Jungne. In addition, he heard many teachings from many lamas and did some studying. After that, he developed strong diligence in Tsang Rong and began to practice. Rongton said to him, "My Dharma will not be of much help to you. Now go to Lhodrak Chukyer, where it is said that there is Marpa Lotsawa, the heart son of the Indian Naropa Mahapandita, who has teachings that forcibly bring even the most sinful to Buddhahood. It would be better to go there." Just hearing the name of Marpa, he developed extraordinary faith. He immediately packed his bags and set off. When he arrived in Lhodrak, he asked where Marpa Lotsawa lived, but people said there was no one like that there. One person said, "It might be my uncle Lodro, he has been to India a few times." That person said, "If it is him, he is digging in the field, go up there." He went there and saw a yogi with a large body and shaggy hair.

He was digging sod. I wanted to see Marpa Lotsawa, so he drew a picture on the sod and said, "Dig this and you will meet the lama." After digging up the sod, he said, "The essence of the profound instructions of the venerable lama is gathered in the central channel. If you can subdue the smoke of afflictions, the fruit will ripen quickly." After saying this, he drew a picture on the ground and said, "Dig this much too." After digging that up, he said, "Through the blessings of the lineage-holding lama, the mind itself abides in its natural state of relaxation. If you can subdue the smoke of mindfulness, the autumn harvest will ripen quickly." He said this and seemed very lazy. Then he took a jug of chang from the haystack, drank it himself, and poured the rest for Mila, filling him up. Then he said again, "The substance of the great bliss chang, this secret of truly great meaning, if you can completely subdue the smoke, the autumn harvest will ripen." He said this, and I understood those to be introductory words, and I didn't do any other thinking or judging, and I didn't know he was a lama. Then he took the tools and went to the door, saying, "Stay here and I'll go ask for something." After a while, someone came and said, "If you want to see him, come in." I went in and went to a room, and there was that yogi with his hair disheveled, wearing ragged clothes, sitting majestically on a platform. When I saw his face, I was startled. The lama said, "Don't be so afraid, others don't understand my behavior." I told him my story in detail, and because I was a great sinner, I offered my body, speech, and mind, and asked for food, clothing, and dharma. He said, "None of the three will do." I asked him to grant me dharma, and he said, "Your name is Thuchen Tok (Tibetan: མཐུ་ཆེན་ཐོག, Powerful Greatness)." After that, I begged for alms in Lhodrak at the autumn harvest, and I was very happy to get barley. I carried a full sack of barley and offered it to the lama, who said, "It's too much, I'm afraid it will collapse the house. You seem very lazy, so you have to build a castle for my Joses Dode." So he instructed me to build round, square, crescent-shaped, and triangular castles, and after building them halfway, to tear them all down again. Then he laid the foundation for a square castle with a thirty-two-pillared veranda. During the day he built the castle, and at night he gathered water and firewood for morning and evening, and in the evening he ground roasted barley flour.
