Before it is over, repeated practice will surely succeed. In that state, if consciousness departs, then in the next life, one will surely be reborn as an emanation body that benefits sentient beings. If the transference of such an emanation body is successful, then the external signs are that rainbow clouds like wish-fulfilling trees will appear in the sky, like unfolded white silk, and showers of flowers will fall, and so on. The internal signs are that blood, serum, or bodhicitta will flow from the left nostril, or dew drops will appear, and so on. The secret signs are that many small relics will appear, a complete, undamaged skull, and the implements of the deities, and so on. The samaya of the transference of the emanation body. Those are according to the circumstances of gradual death, but if it is sudden death, there is no time for such meditation, so the instantaneous transference is very important. Because one does not know what the cause of death will be, one should now practice the transference of habituation, and practice the instantaneous transference. This is how to do it: If I am going to die suddenly, I must clearly remember that I must focus my intention on the crown of my head. This intention is very important. For example, just as when the twenty-second day's moon rises, thinking that one must get up and walk, if one has been thinking about it all night, then one will wake up when the moon rises at midnight. Similarly, now whenever strong fear arises, one should practice focusing one's intention on the crown of one's head. Then, what is called sudden death, like falling from a high cliff, when the thought "I am going to die" arises, immediately after that, it is best to clearly remember the lama on the crown of one's head, or to clearly remember the yidam. If there is no time to remember, then focusing one's intention on the crown of one's head is key. The reason why one can focus one's intention at that time is because now when we encounter strong fear, we blurt out "Ah, Lama!", so at that time one will surely remember the lama, or focus awareness on the crown of one's head, this key is very profound. Similarly, being completely enveloped in a great fire, or being swept away in a great flood, or being struck by lightning on the head, or being shot by an arrow in the heart, and so on, immediately after that, clearly remember the lama on the crown of one's head, or focus awareness on the crown of one's head.

Having entrusted in this way is also called "Momentary Transference"; it is also called "Forced Transference"; because it is extremely profound, it should be well remembered. That is, when ordinary people experience extreme fear, if they call out the names of the Buddhas such as "Father Lama" or "Orgyen," it is said that there are many merits; then, if one entrusts their intention to the Lama on the crown of their head, the merits are inconceivable. Moreover, there is a great difference in the paths of consciousness transference; among them, there are three types: superior, intermediate, and inferior, making a total of nine. The Brahma aperture on the crown of the head is the path to the pure Khechara; if consciousness exits from there, liberation will be attained. Because this is the most supreme path; therefore, it is very important to be familiar with entrusting intention there. If consciousness transfers from the eyes, one will be reborn as a Chakravartin King; if it transfers from the left nostril, one will obtain a pure human body; these are the three superior doors. If it transfers from the right nostril, one will be reborn as a Yaksha; if it transfers from both ears, one will be reborn as a deity of the Form Realm; if it transfers from the navel, one will be reborn as a deity of the Desire Realm; these are the three intermediate doors. If it transfers from the urethra, one will be reborn as an animal; if it transfers from what is called the "Gate of Existence," that is, the path through which the white and red bindus flow, one will be reborn as a hungry ghost; if it transfers from the anus, one will be reborn in hell; these are the three inferior doors. Therefore, there is a very great difference in the doors of consciousness transference; so, at the time of death, entrusting consciousness to the crown of the head has immeasurable merit. Forced Transference, Samaya! Fourth, the transference for ordinary people is: for those who have not realized the meaning of emptiness, and who do not understand the meaning of the generation stage and completion stage, turn their head to the north, lay them down on their right side, and have the Lama or Dharma friend, if their consciousness is clear and their body can support it, have them take refuge, generate Bodhicitta, and confess their sins; then give them the vows of a layperson; if possible, give them the empowerment of Secret Mantra; just by doing this, as long as they do not break their vows and commitments, and if they die with good karma from previous lives, they will be liberated from the lower realms, and there will be immeasurable merit. For those who cannot even do this, gently call their name and tell them: The Great Compassionate One is residing on the crown of your head, please die with devotion! After saying this, gently touch the crown of their head; slightly pull the hair of the Brahma aperture. In this way, consciousness will exit from the Brahma aperture. For those who cannot even do this, those who are no different from animals, from the direction of the head, prostrate to the Buddha Ratnacūḍa! By reciting this many times, they will surely be liberated from the lower realms.
