For those attaining final Nibbāna in the Pure Abodes, for them there the phenomena-faculty did not cease, but for them there the mind-faculty does not cease. For those arising in the Pure Abodes, for them there the phenomena-faculty did not cease and the mind-faculty does not cease. (5) Section on Present and Future (A) Direct Person 166. (A) For whom the eye-faculty ceases, for them will the ear-faculty cease? For those attaining final Nibbāna in the five-constituent existence, and for those who, having arisen in the formless realm, will attain final Nibbāna, for them when passing away, for them the eye-faculty ceases, but for them the ear-faculty will not cease. For others, for those with the eye-faculty, when passing away, for them the eye-faculty ceases and the ear-faculty will cease. (B) Or again, for whom the ear-faculty will cease, for them does the eye-faculty cease? For all who are arising, for those without the eye-faculty, for those who are passing away, for them the ear-faculty will cease, but for them the eye-faculty does not cease. For those with the eye-faculty, when passing away, for them the ear-faculty will cease and the eye-faculty ceases. (A) For whom the eye-faculty ceases, for them will the nose-faculty cease? For those attaining final Nibbāna in the five-constituent existence, and for those who, having arisen in the form realm or the formless realm, will attain final Nibbāna, for them when passing away, for them the eye-faculty ceases, but for them the nose-faculty will not cease. For others, at their passing away, who possess the eye, for them, the eye faculty ceases, and the form faculty will cease. (B) Or for whom the form faculty…etc…. For whom the eye faculty ceases, will the mind faculty…etc… the dhamma faculty cease? For those attaining final Nibbāna in the five-constituent existence, for them, the eye faculty ceases, but for them, the dhamma faculty will not cease. For others, at their passing away, who possess the eye, for them, the eye faculty ceases, and the dhamma faculty will cease. Or for whom the dhamma faculty will cease, does the eye faculty cease? For all those being reborn, for those without the eye, at their passing away, for them…etc… for those with the eye, at their passing away, for them…etc…. 167. (A) For whom the nose faculty ceases, will the form faculty cease? For those attaining final Nibbāna in the sense-sphere existence, and for those who will attain final Nibbāna after being reborn in the formless existence, for them, at their passing away, the nose faculty ceases, but for them, the form faculty will not cease. For others, at their passing away, who possess the nose, for them, the nose faculty ceases, and the form faculty will cease. (B) Or for whom the form faculty will cease, does the nose faculty cease? For all those being reborn, for those without the nose, at their passing away, for them, the form faculty will cease, but for them, the nose faculty does not cease. For those with the nose, at their passing away, for them, the form faculty will cease, and the nose faculty ceases. For whom the nose faculty ceases, will the mind faculty…etc… the dhamma faculty cease? For those attaining final Nibbāna in the sense-sphere existence, for them, the nose facul the nose-sense-base ceases, but for them the mind-base will not cease. For others, those with a nose-sense-base, when passing away, for them the nose-sense-base ceases and the mind-base will cease. Or for whom the mind-base... (etc.). 168. For whom the form-sense-base ceases, for him will the mind-base cease? For those attaining final Nibbāna in the five-constituent existence, for them the form-sense-base ceases, but for them the mind-base will not cease. For others, those with form, when passing away, for them the form-sense-base ceases and the mind-base will cease. Or for whom the mind-base will cease, for him does the form-sense-base cease? For all those arising, for those without form, when passing away, for them the mind-base will cease, but for them the form-sense-base does not cease. For those with form, when passing away, for them the mind-base will cease and the form-sense-base ceases. 169. (A) For whom the mind-sense-base ceases, for him will the mind-base cease? For those attaining final Nibbāna, for them the mind-sense-base ceases, but for them the mind-base will not cease. For others, those with consciousness, when passing away, for them the mind-sense-base ceases and the mind-base will cease. (B) Or for whom the mind-base will cease, for him does the mind-sense-base cease? For those attaining final Nibbāna in the sense-sphere, for those passing away from the form-sphere, for them there the eye-faculty ceases, but for them there the nose-faculty will not cease. For others with eyes, passing away from the sense-sphere, for them there the eye-faculty ceases, and the nose-faculty will cease. (B) Or for whom, where the nose-faculty...
