When spoken to by fellow Dhamma-farers, well-spokenness, being well-spoken, well-spoken nature, not taking things contrarily, not persistent in opposition, reverence, respect, regard, obedience – this is called well-spokenness. 1335. Therein, what is good companionship? Those individuals who are faithful, virtuous, learned, generous, wise, the frequenting, associating, consorting with them, the resorting, close resorting, devotion, close devotion, being inclined towards them – this is called good companionship. 1336. Therein, what is skill in offenses? The five groups of offenses are offenses, the seven groups of offenses are offenses. The skill in offenses regarding those offenses, wisdom, understanding...and so on... non-delusion, investigation of states, right view – this is called skill in offenses. 1337. The twelve sense bases: eye base, form base, ear base, sound base, nose base, smell base, tongue base, taste base, body base, touch base, mind base, phenomena base. That skill in sense bases concerning those sense bases, the wisdom, the understanding... and so on... non-delusion, investigation of phenomena, right view – this is called skill in sense bases. 1343. Therein, what is skill in dependent origination? Conditioned by ignorance are volitional formations; conditioned by volitional formations is consciousness; conditioned by consciousness is name-and-form; conditioned by name-and-form are the six sense bases; conditioned by the six sense bases is contact; conditioned by contact is feeling; feeling From a condition, craving; From craving, clinging; From clinging, becoming; From becoming, birth; From birth, old age and death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, displeasure, and despair arise; Thus arises this entire mass of suffering.
