When attending to non-self, knowledge arises by reflecting on the sign and the process. When attending to non-self, the mind emerges from the sign and the process; the mind inclines to the signless, the cessation of process, cessation, the element of Nibbāna. And the wisdom of emerging and turning away from external things, and the lineage-changing states— are these things different in meaning and different in expression, or are they one in meaning, only the expression is different? Considering impermanence, the signless liberation is dominant. Considering suffering, the desireless liberation is dominant. Considering non-self, the emptiness liberation is dominant. Considering impermanence, one resolves the mind by way of the signless liberation. Considering suffering, one resolves the mind by way of the desireless liberation. Considering non-self, one resolves the mind by way of the emptiness liberation. Thus, by way of resolve, the three liberations are in different moments. How are the three liberations in different moments by way of exertion? Considering impermanence, one exerts the mind by way of the signless liberation. Considering suffering, one exerts the mind by way of the desireless liberation. Considering non-self, one exerts the mind by way of the emptiness liberation. Thus, by way of exertion, the three liberations The liberations are at different moments. How are the three liberations at different moments in the sense of leading out? Reflecting on impermanence, one leads out to cessation, to Nibbana, by way of the signless liberation. Reflecting on suffering, one leads out to cessation, to Nibbana, by way of the desireless liberation. Reflecting on non-self, one leads out to cessation, to Nibbana, by way of the emptiness liberation. Thus, the three liberations are at different moments in the sense of leading out. By these four aspects, the three liberations are at different moments. By which seven aspects are the three liberations at one moment? In the sense of combination, in the sense of attainment, in the sense of acquisition, in the sense of penetration, in the sense of realization, in the sense of touching, in the sense of comprehension. How are the three liberations at one moment in the sense of combination, in the sense of attainment, in the sense of acquisition, in the sense of penetration, in the sense of realization, in the sense of touching, in the sense of comprehension? Reflecting on impermanence, one is liberated from signs – this is the signless liberation. From what one is liberated, therein one does not direct one's mind – this is the desireless liberation. Where one does not direct one's mind, by that it is empty – this is the emptiness liberation. By what it is empty, by that sign it is signless – this is the signless liberation. By what it is empty, by that sign it is signless – this is the signless liberation. By which sign it is signless, therein one does not direct one's mind – this is the desireless liberation. Thus, the three liberations are at one moment in the sense of combination, in the sense of attainment, in the sense of acquisition, in the sense of penetration, in the sense of realization, in the sense of touching, in the sense of comprehension. Reflecting on non-self, one is liberated from clinging – this is the emptiness liberation. That by which it is empty, by that sign it is signless – this is the signless liberation. That by which it is signless, there one does not aspire – this is the unaspired liberation. Where one does not aspire, by that it is empty – this is the emptiness liberation. Thus, by way of combination, by way of attainment, by way of acquisition, by way of penetration, by way of realization, by way of touching, by way of comprehension, the three liberations occur in one moment. By these seven aspects, the three liberations occur in one moment. 229. There is liberation, there is a door, there is the door to liberation, there is what is contrary to liberation, there is what is conducive to liberation, there is the turning away towards liberation, there is the development of liberation, there is the calming of liberation. Which is liberation? Emptiness liberation, signless liberation, unaspired liberation. Which is emptiness liberation? The knowledge of impermanence contemplation is liberated from the clinging to permanence – this is emptiness liberation. The knowledge of suffering contemplation is liberated from the clinging to happiness – this is emptiness liberation. The knowledge of non-self contemplation is liberated from the clinging to self – this is emptiness liberation. The knowledge of disenchantment contemplation is liberated from the clinging to delight – this is emptiness liberation. The knowledge of dispassion contemplation is liberated from the clinging to passion – this is emptiness liberation. The knowledge of cessation contemplation is liberated from the clinging to origination – this is emptiness liberation. The knowledge of relinquishment contemplation is liberated from the clinging to grasping – this is emptiness liberation. The knowledge of signless contemplation is liberated from the clinging to signs – this is emptiness liberation. The knowledge of unaspired contemplation is liberated from the clinging to aspiration – this is emptiness liberation. The knowledge of emptiness contemplation is liberated from all clingings – this is emptiness liberation. The knowledge of impermanence contemplation in form is liberated from the clinging to permanence – this is emptiness liberation. ... The knowledge of emptiness contemplation in form is liberated from all clingings – this is emptiness liberation. In feeling... in perception... in mental formations... in consciousness... in the eye... And so, in aging-and-death, the knowledge of contemplating impermanence, from the clinging to permanence, is liberated, thus, liberation by emptiness. ... In aging-and-death, the knowledge of contemplating emptiness, from all clingings, is liberated, thus, liberation by emptiness. This is liberation by emptiness. Which is signless liberation? The knowledge of contemplating impermanence, from the sign of permanence, is liberated, thus, signless liberation. The knowledge of contemplating suffering, from the sign of pleasure, is liberated, thus, signless liberation. The knowledge of contemplating non-self, from the sign of self, is liberated, thus, signless liberation. The knowledge of contemplating disenchantment, from the sign of delight, is liberated, thus, signless liberation. The knowledge of contemplating dispassion, from the sign of passion, is liberated, thus, signless liberation. The knowledge of contemplating cessation, from the sign of origination, is liberated, thus, signless liberation. The knowledge of contemplating relinquishment, from the sign of grasping, is liberated, thus, signless liberation. The knowledge of contemplating signlessness, from all signs, is liberated, thus, signless liberation.
