Wisdom due to being touched, is knowledge in penetration. 43. Wisdom in bringing together, is knowledge in partial abiding. 44. Wisdom due to being dominant, is knowledge in the turning away from perception. 45. Wisdom in diversity, is knowledge in the turning away of consciousness. 46. Wisdom in determination, is knowledge in the turning away of mind. 47. Wisdom in emptiness, is knowledge in the turning away of knowledge. 48. Wisdom in relinquishment, is knowledge in the turning away of liberation. 49. Wisdom in the state of reality, is knowledge in the turning away of truth. 50. Wisdom in the state of accomplishment by way of determination, with both body and mind established as one, and the perception of happiness and lightness, is knowledge in the various kinds of psychic power. 51. Wisdom in the penetration of the diverse and unified signs of sounds by way of the expansion of thought, is knowledge of the purity of the ear element. 52. Of three Wisdom in comprehending the conduct of various and single consciousnesses, due to the spreading of minds and by way of the clarity of faculties, is knowledge of the minds of others. 53. Wisdom in comprehending phenomena proceeding from conditions, by way of the spreading of various and single kamma, is knowledge of recollection of past lives. 54. Wisdom in the aspect of seeing various and single forms and signs by way of radiance, is divine eye knowledge. 55. Wisdom, by the mastery of the three faculties in sixty-four aspects, is knowledge of the destruction of the taints. 56. Wisdom in the aspect of full understanding, is knowledge of suffering. 57. Wisdom in the aspect of abandoning, is knowledge of the origin. 58. Wisdom in the aspect of realization, is knowledge of cessation. 59. Wisdom in the aspect of development, is knowledge of the path. 60. Knowledge of suffering. 61. Knowledge of the origin of suffering. 62. Knowledge of the cessation of suffering. 63. Knowledge of the path leading to the cessation of suffering. 64. Knowledge of analytical insight into meaning. 65. Knowledge of analytical insight into phenomena. 66. Knowledge of analytical insight into language. 67. Knowledge of analytical insight into ready wit. 68. Knowledge of the maturity of the faculties of others. 69. These are seventy-three knowledges. Of these seventy-three knowledges, sixty-seven knowledges are common to disciples; six knowledges are not common to disciples. The matrix is concluded. 1. Discourse on Knowledge 1. Exposition of Knowledge Born of Hearing 1. How is wisdom in giving ear, knowledge born of hearing? Giving ear, "These phenomena are to be directly known," wisdom knowing that, is knowledge born of hearing. Giving ear, "These phenomena are to be fully understood," wisdom knowing that, is knowledge born of hearing. Giving ear, "These phenomena are to be abandoned," wisdom knowing that, is knowledge born of hearing. Giving ear, "These phenomena are to be developed," wisdom knowing that, is knowledge born of hearing. Giving ear, "These phenomena are to be realized," wisdom knowing that, is knowledge born of hearing. Giving ear, "These phenomena are conducive to decline," Such attention, the understanding of that is wisdom, knowledge gained by hearing. "These phenomena lead to stability" – attentive listening, the understanding of that is wisdom, knowledge gained by hearing. "These phenomena lead to distinction" – attentive listening, the understanding of that is wisdom, knowledge gained by hearing. "These phenomena lead to penetration" – attentive listening, the understanding of that is wisdom, knowledge gained by hearing. "All formations are impermanent" – attentive listening, the understanding of that is wisdom, knowledge gained by hearing. "All formations are suffering" – attentive listening, the understanding of that is wisdom, knowledge gained by hearing. "All phenomena are non-self" – attentive listening, the understanding of that is wisdom, knowledge gained by hearing. "This is the noble truth of suffering" – attentive listening, the understanding of that is wisdom, knowledge gained by hearing. "This is the noble truth of the origin of suffering" – attentive listening, the understanding of that is wisdom, knowledge gained by hearing. "This is the noble truth of the cessation of suffering" – attentive listening, the understanding of that is wisdom, knowledge gained by hearing. "This is the noble truth of the path leading to the cessation of suffering" – attentive listening, the understanding of that is wisdom, knowledge gained by hearing. 2. How is it that "These phenomena are to be fully understood" – attentive listening, the understanding of that is wisdom, knowledge gained by hearing? One phenomenon is to be fully understood: all beings subsist on food. Two phenomena are to be fully understood: two elements. Three phenomena are to be fully understood: three elements. Four phenomena are to be fully understood: four noble truths. Five phenomena are to be fully understood: five spheres of liberation. Six phenomena are to be fully understood: six supreme things. Seven phenomena are to be fully understood: seven grounds for instruction. Eight phenomena are to be fully understood: eight spheres of mastery. Nine phenomena are to be fully understood: nine gradual abidings. Ten phenomena are to be fully understood: ten grounds for wearing out (of defilements). 3. "All, monks, is to be fully understood." "And what, monks, is all to be fully understood? The eye, monks... The eye is to be fully understood; forms are to be fully understood; eye-consciousness is to be fully understood; eye-contact is to be fully understood; and whatever feeling arises dependent on eye-contact— whether pleasant or painful or neither-pleasant-nor-painful—
