In how many ways is there penetration of the truths? In how many ways does one penetrate the truths? There is penetration of the truths in four ways. One penetrates the truths in four ways. One penetrates the truth of suffering by penetration of full comprehension, one penetrates the truth of origin by penetration of abandonment, the truth of cessation by penetration of realization. penetrates the penetration, the path truth penetrates the penetration of development. By these four modes there is penetration of the truths. Penetrating the truths by these four modes, by means of the faculty of faith, one is liberated by faith, by means of the faculty of concentration, one is a body-witness, by means of the faculty of wisdom, one has attained to view. By how many modes is there penetration of the truths? By how many modes does one penetrate the truths? By nine modes there is penetration of the truths, by nine modes one penetrates the truths. The truth of suffering one penetrates by the penetration of full understanding, the truth of origin one penetrates by the penetration of abandonment, the truth of cessation one penetrates by the penetration of realization, the truth of the path one penetrates by the penetration of development. And the penetration of direct knowledge of all phenomena, and the penetration of full understanding of all formations, and the penetration of abandonment of all unwholesome things, and the penetration of development of the four paths, and the penetration of realization of cessation. By these nine modes there is penetration of the truths. Penetrating the truths by these nine modes, by means of the faculty of faith, one is liberated by faith, by means of the faculty of concentration, one is a body-witness, by means of the faculty of wisdom, one has attained to view. The Second Recitation Section. 223. When one attends to impermanence, how do formations appear? When one attends to suffering, how do formations appear? When one attends to non-self, how do formations appear? When one attends to impermanence, formations appear as perishing. When one attends to suffering, formations appear as fearful. When one attends to non-self, formations appear as empty. When one attends to impermanence, what does the mind mostly become? When one attends to suffering, what does the mind mostly become? When one attends to non-self, what does the mind mostly become? When one attends to impermanence, the mind mostly becomes resolute. When one attends to suffering, the mind mostly becomes tranquil. When one attends to non-self, the mind mostly becomes penetrating. When one attends to impermanence Reflecting on impermanence, abounding in conviction, which liberation does he attain? Reflecting on suffering, abounding in tranquility, which liberation does he attain? Reflecting on non-self, abounding in knowledge, which liberation does he attain? Reflecting on impermanence, abounding in conviction, he attains the signless liberation. Reflecting on suffering, abounding in tranquility, he attains the desireless liberation. Reflecting on non-self, abounding in knowledge, he attains the emptiness liberation. 224. For one reflecting on impermanence, abounding in conviction, which liberation is dominant? In development, how many liberations are consequent? Are they co-arisen conditions? Are they mutual conditions? Are they support conditions? Are they associated conditions? Are they of one taste? In what sense is it development? Who develops? For one reflecting on suffering, abounding in tranquility, which liberation is dominant? In development, how many liberations are consequent? Are they co-arisen conditions? Are they mutual conditions? Are they support conditions? Are they associated conditions? Are they of one taste? In what sense is it development? Who develops? For one reflecting on non-self, abounding in knowledge, which liberation is dominant? In development, how many liberations are consequent? Are they co-arisen conditions? Are they mutual conditions? Are they support conditions? Are they associated conditions? Are they of one taste? In what sense is it development? Who develops? For one reflecting on impermanence, abounding in conviction, the signless liberation is dominant. In development, two liberations are consequent, they are co-arisen conditions, they are mutual conditions, they are support conditions, they are associated conditions, they are of one taste. It is development in the sense of one taste. Whoever is rightly practicing, he develops; there is no development of liberation for one wrongly practicing. For one reflecting on suffering, abounding in tranquility, the desireless liberation is dominant. In development, two liberations... they are consequent upon them, they are conascent conditions, they are mutual conditions, they are support conditions, they are associated conditions, they are of one taste. Cultivation is by way of one taste. Whoever practices rightly, he cultivates; there is no cultivation of liberation for one who practices wrongly. For one who attends to non-self, for one abundant in knowledge, the emptiness liberation is dominant. In cultivation, two liberations are consequent upon them, are conascent conditions, are mutual conditions, are support conditions, are associated conditions, are of one taste. Cultivation is by way of one taste. Whoever practices rightly, he cultivates; there is no cultivation of liberation for one who practices wrongly. For one who attends to impermanence, for one abundant in conviction, which liberation is dominant? In cultivation, how many liberations are consequent upon them, are conascent conditions, are mutual conditions, are support conditions, are associated conditions, are of one taste? At the time of penetration, which liberation is dominant? For penetration, how many liberations are consequent upon them, are conascent conditions, are mutual conditions, are support conditions, are associated conditions, are of one taste?
