In the matter where the bhikkhunī Thullanandā associated with the bhikkhu Ariṭṭha, who had been suspended by the united Saṅgha, after he had previously been a donkey-herder. It is a single designation. Of the six origins of offenses, it arises by one origin – from the burden... by laying down the burden... and so on. Where was the Pārājika, due to the completion of the eighth matter, laid down? It was laid down at Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning the group of six bhikkhunīs. In what matter? In the matter where the group of six bhikkhunīs completed the eighth matter. There is one enactment. It arises from one of the six origins of offenses – by laying down the burden... and so on. In what matter? In the matter where a certain bhikkhunī went alone to another village. One enactment, three supplementary enactments. Regarding the Sanghādisesa offense concerning reinstating a bhikkhunī who had been suspended by a united Sangha according to Dhamma, Vinaya, and the Teacher's Dispensation, without consulting the Sangha that carried out the act, and without knowing the assembly's consent, where was it laid down? It was laid down in Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning the bhikkhunī Thullanandā. In what matter? In the matter where the bhikkhunī Thullanandā reinstated a bhikkhunī who had been suspended by a united Sangha according to Dhamma, Vinaya, and the Teacher's Dispensation, without consulting the Sangha that carried out the act, and without knowing the assembly's consent. When a lustful bhikkhunī, from the hand of a lustful male person, with her own hand, food or eatables by receiving and eating, where was the Saṅghādisesa laid down? It was laid down at Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning the bhikkhunī Sundarīnandā. In what matter? In the matter where the bhikkhunī Sundarīnandā, being lustful, received food from the hand of a lustful man. One enactment. It arises from one of the six origins of offenses— in the first Pārājika…etc…. “What will that man do to you, lady, whether lustful or not lustful, since you are not lustful! Come, lady, whatever that man gives you, whether solid food or soft food, receive it with your own hand and eat it or consume it!” where was the Saṅghādisesa laid down concerning instigation? It was laid down at Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning a certain bhikkhunī. In what matter? In the matter where a certain bhikkhunī instigated, saying: “What will that man do to you, lady, whether lustful or not lustful, since you are not lustful! Come, lady, whatever that man gives you, whether solid food or soft food, receive it with your own hand and eat it or consume it!” One enactment. It arises from three of the six origins of offenses…etc…. Because a bhikkhunī, being angry and displeased, does not relinquish after the third admonition, where was the Saṅghādisesa laid down? It was laid down at Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning the bhikkhunī Caṇḍakāḷī. In what matter? In the matter where the bhikkhunī Caṇḍakāḷī, being angry and displeased, said thus: “I renounce the Buddha, I renounce the Dhamma, I renounce the Saṅgha, I renounce the training.” One enactment. It arises from one of the six origins of offenses— in the abandonment of the burden…etc…. Because a bhikkhunī, having renounced in some dispute, after the third admonition… Because of not renouncing a request, where was the Sanghādisesa laid down? It was laid down at Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning the bhikkhunī Caṇḍakāḷī. On what matter? On the matter where the bhikkhunī Caṇḍakāḷī, having been rejected in some dispute, angry and displeased, spoke thus: "The bhikkhunīs are led by desire, the bhikkhunīs are led by hatred, the bhikkhunīs are led by delusion, the bhikkhunīs are led by fear." One promulgation. It arises from one of the six origins of offense – by laying down the burden... etc. Because of not renouncing after the third admonition of associated bhikkhunīs, where was the Sanghādisesa laid down? It was laid down at Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning many bhikkhunīs. On what matter? On the matter where many bhikkhunīs lived in association. One promulgation. It arises from one of the six origins of offense – by laying down the burden... etc. "Venerable sirs, you should live in association. Do not live separately." Because of not renouncing after the third admonition by one who incites thus, where was the Sanghādisesa laid down? It was laid down at Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning the bhikkhunī Thullanandā. On what matter? On the matter where the bhikkhunī Thullanandā incited: "Venerable sirs, you should live in association. Do not live separately." One promulgation. It arises from one of the six origins of offense – by laying down the burden... etc. Because of asking for curds and eating them, where was the Pāṭidesanīya laid down? It was laid down at Sāvatthī. Concerning whom? Concerning the group of six bhikkhunīs. On what matter? On the matter where the group of six bhikkhunīs asked for curds and ate them. One promulgation, one supplementary promulgation. From four of the six origins of offense... arises from exertions...etc.... The first chapter on the designation of places is finished. 2. Chapter on Committed Offenses 1. Section on Pārājika Offenses 249. Due to consenting to bodily contact, how many offenses are committed? Due to consenting to bodily contact, five offenses are committed. A lustful bhikkhunī consents to a lustful male person grasping below the knee-cap, above the knee-cap; an offense of pārājika. A bhikkhu touches body with body; an offense of saṅghādisesa. He touches body-related with body; an offense of thullaccaya. He touches body-related with body-related; an offense of dukkaṭa. For poking with a finger, a pācittiya – due to consenting to bodily contact, these five offenses are committed. Due to concealing a fault, how many offenses are committed? Due to concealing a fault, four offenses are committed. A bhikkhunī knowingly conceals a pārājika offense [an offense of pārājika committed]; an offense of pārājika. She conceals with doubt; an offense of thullaccaya. A bhikkhu conceals a saṅghādisesa offense; an offense of pācittiya. He conceals a misconduct; an offense of dukkaṭa – due to concealing a fault, these four offenses are committed. Due to not giving up after the third admonition, how many offenses are committed? Due to not giving up after the third admonition, five offenses are committed. A bhikkhunī who follows an expelled bhikkhu does not give up after the third admonition; a dukkaṭa for the motion. For two formal acts, thullaccayas. At the conclusion of the formal act, an offense of pārājika. A bhikkhunī who follows a schismatic does not give up after the third admonition; an offense of saṅghādisesa.
