Even for those with wisdom, the sight of hell, displayed in thousands of ways, causes fear and dismay. However, those foolish ones who hear these things and do not fear, because they have no feeling, their hearts are like diamonds, unyielding. The intense suffering of hell is shown below: Seeing or hearing depictions of hell, recalling, reading, or portraying them, all cause fear. If one were to personally experience that unbearable ripening of karma, what need is there to say more? Seeing the forms of hell painted in pictures, hearing detailed accounts of the suffering of hell, recalling them in the mind as heard, reading scriptures that describe the suffering of hell, and portraying the layout of hell in paintings, sculptures, or dramatic performances, etc., merely seeing or hearing the sights of hell's suffering causes dismay and fear. If that unbearable ripening of suffering were to befall oneself and be personally experienced, what need is there to say more? In general, all the sufferings of hell are especially intense. Below, the greatest suffering is identified: Just as among all pleasures, the pleasure of the exhaustion of craving is the king of pleasures, similarly, among all sufferings, the suffering of Avici hell is immeasurable. Among all pleasures, the pleasure of the exhaustion of craving, such as attaining the state of an Arhat, etc., is the pleasure of abandoning the afflictions of the three realms, that is the king of all pleasures, the ultimate that is supreme or most important. Just as that is, similarly, among all the sufferings of samsara, even the ordinary suffering of hell is intense, and especially the suffering of Avici hell is the ultimate of immeasurable suffering. Whatever is planted and does not die, and continuously experiences suffering, that cannot be compared even to the smallest suffering of hell. Because such suffering cannot even be compared to the suffering of hell. Here, "འོལ་ཇི་" refers to similarities, but in reality, there are no similarities, and even one percent cannot be endured, even partial similarity is impossible. The suffering of hell is long, therefore the suffering is extremely endless. Even if experienced for hundreds of millions of years, as long as the negative karma is not exhausted, it will not be separated from life. Therefore, the suffering of hell is extremely unbearable. In the cold hells, the body will be split into hundreds and thousands of pieces; in the hot hells, the body will be cut into hundreds and thousands of pieces; or melt like butter together with molten copper, and so on. Even so, they will be resurrected again and again, experiencing intense suffering for hundreds of millions of years. As long as the negative karma that leads to rebirth in hell is not exhausted, they will not be separated from life, so they must continuously endure suffering. Admonition to abandon the cause of hellish suffering: The seeds of these evil consequences are, the misdeeds committed by body, speech, and mind, you, be sure to leave not even a speck of it, thus strive with all your might! The evil result, the seed of suffering, is the evil deeds committed by body, speech, and mind, that is, the accumulated negative karma. King, you must abandon all negative karma, leaving not even a speck. Thus, generate the power of intention, value and strive, and be sure to abandon it with effort. Explaining the suffering of animals: Even in the state of animals, there is killing, bondage, beatings, and various sufferings. For those who abandon peaceful and happy virtues, they devour each other, which is extremely unbearable. Some are killed for pearls, wool, bones, meat, and leather. Helpless other animals are kicked, beaten by hands, driven by whips and iron hooks. Dwelling in peaceful and painless bliss is nirvana, like this approaching tranquility

Ownerless animals devour each other, experiencing such terrifying suffering. Some are killed for their pearls, wool, bones, meat, and hides for the use of others. Furthermore, some unfree animals are kicked and struck with hands, horses are driven with whips, and elephants are driven by being struck with hooks, experiencing various kinds of suffering from being exploited. First, the summary: Even in the realm of pretas, due to the lack of desires, continuous suffering arises, which cannot be changed. The suffering caused by hunger, thirst, cold, heat, fatigue, and fear is extremely unbearable and must be endured. Having been born in the realm of pretas, one feels deprived due to not finding what one desires. The suffering caused by the non-fulfillment of desires has no interval of happiness, only continuous suffering, which is the strong result of negative karma, unchangeable and irremediable. Hunger, thirst, cold, heat, and wandering everywhere for twelve years or more in search of a single meal or drink cause fatigue and exhaustion. Fear refers to the fear of enemies of the mind in the preta realm, and other beings also become enemies and inflict harm, etc. The suffering caused by great fear is extremely unbearable and must be endured. In the detailed explanation, the suffering of those with obscurations in the preta realm is described: Some pretas have mouths as small as the eye of a needle, but stomachs as large as mountains, suffering from hunger.
