English

Depict the manner of adorning the head with a crown. On the ground, in the city of Rājagṛha, there is King Padma Chenpo (Great Lotus), in Śrāvastī, there is King Rib Long Flying, in Ayodhyā, there is King Boundless Circumference, in Kauśāmbī, there is King Hundred Battles, in Kapilavastu, there is King Śuddhodana with his two supreme consorts, and in the city of Lhas Ten (City Shown by the Gods), there is King Lekpar Rapse (Well Awakened). Arrange for them to be residing there. The six beautiful palace buildings, those five, should be drawn with large intervals. Between Kapilavastu and Lhas Ten (City Shown by the Gods), there should be a slightly closer place with water. Generally, draw those wherever it is convenient, but Kapilavastu should be drawn in a prominent place. In the sky, depict many minor deities going back and forth and conversing. In a forest near King Padma Chenpo's palace, draw many Pratyekabuddhas gathered, and one ascending into the sky, emitting various lights from his body, one emanating clouds from his body and causing lightning and rain to fall, and one emitting fire. In the vicinity of each of those cities, generally draw whatever good arrangement there is, and in root huts, leaf huts, caves, etc., draw the six heretical teachers, the three six eight heretics. Among those, for the Pratyekabuddhas, there is now a custom of drawing a crest jewel, but it is not necessary to draw it. Draw a full ūrṇā between the eyebrows, this is so as not to mistake them. It is impossible to describe everything. The attire is generally similar to that of renunciants, but the Dharma robes do not need stripes, and instead of a black bowl, they hold a gourd or a begging bowl. Some may carry a water-wood staff, etc. The reason for not using a staff with bells and Dharma robes with six stripes, as well as a bowl and scriptures, etc., is because they arise from self-realization at a time when the Buddha's teachings do not exist. For the six heretical teachers, the three six eight heretics, in the order of the six logicians such as Pūraṇa Kāśyapa, the first is shaved and wears a small lower garment dyed with coarse cloth, the second ties up yellowish hair, has a triangular loincloth like that of Indians, the rest are naked, have small earrings, and smear their bodies with ashes, the third is shaved, holds a single-headed staff, and the general

Having been instilled. The fourth is shaven-headed, wearing a black corpse-cloth like a wheel. The fifth is similar to that, but with black hair, wearing white clothes. The sixth is naked, without even a loincloth, the hair all plucked out, becoming bald, sitting in full lotus posture, in meditative equipoise. The six, such as the Brahmin lineage, are all equally in Brahmin attire, therefore, showing the right shoulder, wearing a white Brahmin thread with three knots. With an animal skin or white or red cloth, about a fathom long, made into a loincloth. Conforming to the Indian style of dress. Holding a three-pronged staff, a begging bowl, and scriptures, etc. On the forehead, draw three sandalwood dots extending upwards, or arrange three in a row, or a gold or silver belt of similar shape around the waist, etc., each drawn in an appropriate manner. All have long beards, and the other hair is shaved, with a topknot tied on the crown of the head, or it is said not to be dreadlocks. Make a topknot on the crown of the head. Unless there are specific differences such as old or young, most Brahmins who need to be drawn should adopt this attire. Do not just draw them as Tibetan yogi old men who claim to be Brahmins. The six teachers of the Tirthikas, such as Dirghanakha, are: hair tied and matted into flat knots, with long beards and nails, wearing triangular loincloths, animal skins, and various tree-leaf garments, with a water pot placed nearby, sitting in full lotus posture, making the mudra of meditative equipoise. For the eighteen teachers of the six heretics, draw one or two attendants or a little more for each. These will be manifestly born in Tushita. 7. In the palace of King Suddhodana, in a pavilion near the queen's, draw the manner of Queen Maya sleeping, and the manner of a white elephant with six tusks descending from the sky above the pavilion. Furthermore, in the sky above that pavilion, within four circles like rainbow halos, the four dreams of the queen should be drawn in faint colors, each finely drawn: one showing the elephant entering her own body, one showing the queen herself flying in the sky, one showing the queen herself climbing a rocky mountain, reaching the summit.

It should be depicted that many people are paying homage to the Buddha's mother. This is the section on descending from Tushita. (Ka) Furthermore, in a palace near those places, the Bodhisattva enters the womb of the Buddha's mother, adorned with radiant decorations like a deity. On the left and right of the Buddha's mother are four divine guardians, holding swords, spears, short spears, and large arrows. Depict the scene of many attendants offering various offerings. Then, the king releases the prisoners, and a "Red-Eyed Wanderer," whose attire resembles that of the present-day Sakya order, depicts him drawing the water of the four great oceans into the Buddha's mother. King Śuddhodana should also be depicted near them both. In another place, not connected to that palace, with some space in between, the Lumbini Garden should be depicted, which is a garden with various trees. There, surrounded by many people, depict the scene of the Buddha's mother herself sitting on a palanquin, going to the Lumbini Garden with some maids, and the scene of the Buddha's birth in that garden, similar to what is usually seen, but with the addition of two streams of water descending from the sky onto the head, and the gods offering various offerings such as umbrellas and yak-tail fans. To represent that the inside and outside of the garden are illuminated by light, draw a circular halo surrounding it from the outside. In various directions near those places, depict many mares and foals, as well as mother elephants with their young, women holding boys and girls, and five hundred treasures emerging from underground, depicting about five of each treasure. In another palace, depict many small kings paying homage to King Śuddhodana and offering gifts. Also, in a palace, depict the Bodhisattva in the form of an infant sitting on his father's lap, surrounded by many attendants, with many Brahmins depicted in front. Then, on the road, depict the king sitting on a chariot, surrounded by many people, and the Bodhisattva sitting in the center of a palanquin carried by many people, along with his mothers, and in a temple, a yaksha wearing a tiger skin comes and pays homage to the Bodhisattva. Then, in another palace in the scene of the city of Kapilavastu, depict the Bodhisattva sitting on his father's lap, with upright
