It was not allowed. Then, when I met him, I offered about ten pieces of silk and requested instructions. The master spoke about a Lamrim Thorrewa (A Graduated Path to Enlightenment), and I also practiced it. 'Now you also practice it,' he said. All the requesters and caretakers were taken care of by the master. After giving the essential instructions on the path of skillful means, I practiced it. After nine days, great warmth arose, and I wore only a single layer of cotton cloth, and practiced there for nine months. At that time, the master said, 'Go to Zangri to practice.' So, for three months in the summer, I stayed in Zangri, listening to how the mind abides, and I had a vipassanā (insight) like the sun and moon in the clouds. Again, I went to pay homage to the master, and practiced intensely in Gampopa for three years. Among the eight hundred monks, I was known for being able to endure practice. Many wonderful signs of the path arose. I was happy and made inquiries. At Jyal Kok Monastery, I went before the master and asked. He said, 'Ah! Khampa Sewo, I had great expectations for you, but you have made a mistake, so practice again.' I thought, 'There is no mistake at all.' So I practiced in Gampopa for six months, but nothing arose. Again, I asked the master, 'Even if I practice for a hundred years, the essence will not arise. Even if it is a mistake, I am practicing that.' The master was pleased and said, 'Son, you have cut the ties with samsara (cyclic existence).' After that, he gave the introduction to the meaning of reality and the subsequent teachings. The twenty-third time was when I went to Yanglor, met the master Rechenpa, and requested the Thun Jong (posture) and the Six Dharmas. I made detailed inquiries about the essential instructions of Naropa. I also requested essential instructions from Tsemo Namkha Sal, a disciple of Lord Milarepa. The twenty-fourth time was when I requested Vajravarahi practices and related practices, the Ratnavali Sadhana, and the practice of the four empowerments, etc., from Rongpa Agar, a disciple of Jowo, and his disciple Penphukpa Tön Gyal. I requested the Hevajra teachings, etc., from Gyamo Pangkhapa, a disciple of Metsönpo. The twenty-fifth time was when I requested the Lamdre (Path with Result) from Geshe Dor Seng at Yarlung Phukmo Che. I requested the glorious Chakrasamvara and many teachings of Zangkar Lotsawa from Geshe Relchak Tön Tsul of Daryul. The twenty-sixth time was when the master said, 'Go to Olkha to practice.' So, when I went to a cave at Brewo Riwoche in Olkha, a woman appeared and said, 'Do not stay here, my Jomo (female deity/consort) is coming.' Rinpoche thought it was a rock demoness and practiced loving-kindness and compassion. She herself --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
