One should instill the thought, "Will it always remain so?" into the mindstream. The lama should occasionally explain the faults of samsara. Having accustomed him to this for many days, if strong faith does not arise in his mindstream, he is not suitable as a vessel for secret mantra. Therefore, it is important to have him train his mind in karma and its results. Then, when faith arises, in order to gain certainty in direct perception of awareness, one should guide him in distinguishing between samsara and nirvana, etc. Or, the distinction between samsara and nirvana is not even like that. Thus, for one who has previously matured bodhicitta, in order to stabilize it, in order to settle the mind in the channels and winds and make it stable, the lama should teach the instructions on channels and winds and have him meditate. When meditating on the instructions on channels and winds, there are no key texts. Since it is clear from the oral instructions, it is not necessary. Teaching many instructions on mind training, etc., is because this Great Perfection of Naturalness is easy in method, quick in method, and has many methods. Therefore, it is said that the Great Perfection is the six gatherings relaxed, and it is taught with just those words. All of that is word-free without key points. With the key instructions that become key points, like this, the method of becoming enlightened without abandoning the six gatherings, from here, the key point of teaching is: showing how to rely on all sounds to generate uncontaminated experience, and similarly, showing how to generate it by relying on smells, and similarly, showing how to rely on forms, tastes, tactile sensations, and dharmas to generate uncontaminated experience. If one knows the suchness of sound, the key to knowing the essence and elaboration of all dharmas is: training the mind by relying on the sound of a flute, training the mind by relying on the strings of a lute, training the mind by relying on the sound of a pot drum, relying on drums, nets, and lutes, relying on earthenware drums and cymbals. For the fierce ones, relying on the strings of a lute, relying on the strings of cymbals, relying on the sound of a bell, relying on the sound of a conch shell to train the mind, and so on, it is said. Because if the mind is not trained and purified, awareness will not be definitively established beforehand. Relying on form to train the mind, generating uncontaminated experience: relying on many examples, relying on many interdependent connections, relying on
