Those beings who sniff the smell of blood, Are the kind who seize bodies. If one grasps at any thought In the guise of a fearsome mother goddess, They become ugly, flesh-eating ogresses, Who wander in the land of Lanka. If one can discern the star-adorned headdress and banners, And ascertain what such an appearance is, It is a great beast of the animal den, To be seized and realized in that place. If one can discern the throng of servant girls Dominated by karma, And ascertain what such an appearance is, They become a host of black yakshinis, Who harm other beings. Therefore, this strong knot Is a heavy, difficult burden to bear, For with eyes blinded by wrong views, The precious jewel of the mind Will be lost in the realms of permanence and annihilation. After thus speaking, the assembled throng, afflicted by the disease of conceptual thought and realizing that they had turned away from their respective vows, said: Alas! The lord of illusion has deceived us! And they wept bitterly. At that time, at that moment, the Blessed One spoke, saying: O sons of the lineage, look into your own minds! After thus speaking, the assembled throng, looking to see what the nature of karma was like, saw that everything appeared like reflections in a mirror. The lords of Lanka then beseeched the Blessed One, saying: Alas! Blessed One, our vows have certainly turned into evil asceticism; please transform these into true asceticism. Please make it so that, without obstructing our respective vows, we may practice the asceticism of the Dharma. Why do we ask this? Because we are attached to and infatuated with our respective ascetic practices. All phenomena are like illusions, so they can be transformed into anything. The gate of the Great Vehicle is like a fire at the end of an eon. It is also like the sky, like the great earth, and like the great wind. The Blessed Buddha is the lord of the ocean of methods, so please explain according to each one's inclinations. After they thus requested, the Blessed One, the lord of Lanka, smiled with great joy and said: O sons of the lineage, it is good to ask for the meaning of the Great Vehicle in this way, but this is something that even all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas have doubts about, so what need is there to mention you? Thus he spoke.

After speaking, the assembled multitude requested: "Oh, Bhagavan, causing doubt is uncertain. Which Buddhas, the Bhagavans, are certain? Do you speak within this uncertain Dharma wheel?" The Bhagavan replied: "Oh, assembled multitude, I say that all dharmas are uncertain. Why is that? Because there is no dharma that is permanent. Therefore, your respective vows are also uncertain, because apart from this life, in countless instances of taking and relinquishing, each life is different. Similarly, aspirations, actions, circumstances, places, tribes, appearances, lineages, colors, livelihoods, views, and behaviors are all different. Now, what exactly do you want to ascertain? Therefore, I say that all dharmas are uncertain." Then, the assembled multitude requested: "Then, Bhagavan, what would it be like if we were to uphold our vows with certainty?" The Bhagavan replied: "Assembled multitude, like this: The vows of the five heinous crimes are: Vow, meditation, wisdom, and being endowed with bodhicitta and compassion, without interruption, continuously. This is the uninterrupted vow. The vow of great attachment is: Not abandoning wisdom and compassion from samsara and dharmata. This is the vow of attachment. Mother, daughter, sister are dharmata and the five wisdoms. The wisdom that arises from oneself is said to be the dharani of suchness. If it is shown that there is no birth, not taking the life force of life, the continuum of birth is severed, and everything is destroyed into emptiness, that is called killing. Showing existence from non-existence, speaking of non-existence when existence appears, this is the teaching of all the Buddhas, it is the great vow of deception. Towards the wish-fulfilling jewel of others, with the radiance of rejoicing, taking and establishing enlightenment, and taking it back with an iron hook, this is the vow of taking what is not given. Because of desiring that great nature, engaging in wrong conduct from attachment to signs, engaging in wrong conduct with desire, this is the great vow of union. Vow, meditation, wisdom, and self-nature, the five great compassions, great flesh, feces, urine, blood
