Please explain! Thus he requested. The Teacher said: If you do not understand the meaning of the symbols, Keep what I say in mind. The burning charnel ground pyre, Is now a burning mountain of fire, In later times it is the skandha of form. Showing the wish-fulfilling tree, Is like the wind that is the life force. Showing the palace of willows, Outwardly it is Akanistha, Inwardly it is the skull. Desire pouring out like water, Is the great affliction of desire. The black wind enveloping like darkness, Is carried away by the jealousy, ignorance, and demons. The boy holding the lamp, Is the self-appearance of the king of awareness. Residing on the peak of Mount Meru, Is residing in the radiance of the ocean. To wander in the mud in the charnel ground, Is to wander in the citta. Being carried away by the water of samsara, Is being carried away by the water of conceptual thought. Being carried away by the black whirlwind, Is being under the control of the five poisons. He has no death, The body of awareness is like a vajra. Whatever appears is his body. Thus he said. From the Tantra of the Burning Charnel Ground Pyre, The Second Chapter, the Chapter on the Gathering of Symbols. Then again, the Lord of Secrets asked: Kye Kye, Bhagavan Vajradhara! Please explain the meaning of the burning pyre! The Teacher said: Keep in mind the retinue I have taught. What is shown as the skandha, Is the skandha because of the gathering of many. It is the skandha because of destruction. It is the skandha because of support. It is the skandha because of gathering. Relying on the skandhas, The skull, the conch palace, the celestial mansion, Is the dwelling place of Heruka. The four doors of the arising of compassion, Are the four secrets of the movement of awareness. Through the door of Bhrkuti, The essence of awareness, clear radiance, is shown. It is the wisdom that becomes manifest. There is no separation, it is thorough penetration. If you do not move from that state, It is the measure of having realized the intention. Clear and distinct, non-conceptual clarity. Even if the five poisons arise, there is no increase or decrease. Like the essence of the sun, It dispels the darkness that is constant in the three times. Through the door of the arising of compassion, The lamp transforms into the nadi of awareness. Together with the essence and bindu of the body, From the secret horse path of the spinal column, Emerge happily on the vajra path. Gather in the pond of the lotus of the Mother. Nine months

It abides in stillness and the ten bhumis. That bhikshu of essential nature, Recites the dharma-nature's own sound Ah Hum (Tibetan: ཨ་ཧྃ, Sanskrit Devanagari:, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: a hum, Chinese literal meaning: Ah Hum). Ripens fully into the nirmanakaya. With compassion, it cuts through the appearances and ultimate truth. Through the door of dharma-nature wisdom, Which is the intelligence of discriminating wisdom, Is the wisdom of individual self-awareness. What is called the wind born of wisdom, Cuts through the beginning and end of all dharmas, Knows to meditate in the state of no-birth. The teacher at the edge of the four doors, The unborn sky is the door, Possessing inexhaustible things to be heard. Three doors are closed, two doors are opened, Three doors are cut off, one door is closed. In general, although the doors are not cut off, There is no distraction from the door of dharma-nature. The great river is the mind, With the constant discrimination of the three times, The king holds the land, done by the minister. The intelligence that is inseparable and self-luminous, Is like the manner of the king, minister, and people. The king is the essence of intelligence, Abiding in the unchanging, unconditioned nature. Abiding in the unconditioned, spontaneously accomplished state. The great emptiness, the vajra body, The heart essence is self-luminous and without grasping, Dwelling in the sound of its own dharma-nature. Even when distracted by busyness, it does not waver. That is called Raja (Tibetan: རཱ་ཛ, Sanskrit Devanagari:, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: rāja, Chinese literal meaning: King). The minister is the essence of mind, Cutting off the grasping of outer and inner ministers. Various thoughts arise from objects, Cutting off attachment to unbiased memory. Grasping and clinging accumulate in the continuum, Discriminating thoughts act in perverted ways. The five poisons and clinging to self are contained within, Like the treasury of a wise woman, Accumulating various thoughts of virtue and vice. If not realized, the minister wields power, Undoubtedly falling into the three lower realms. If realized, it is the self-power of dharma-nature, Appearing also from the state of intelligence, Arising also from the state of intelligence, Liberating also in the state of intelligence. Various appearances are also the self-power of intelligence, For example, from the realm of space itself, Appear clouds, fog, and vapor, Appearing also dissolving into the realm of space. Likewise, for the king of intelligence, The actions of the minister transform into self-power. Just knowing it is the self-power of intelligence, Adornment and play are compassion. If not wavering from the state of intelligence, Even if liberating the three thousand worlds, From the compassion of the teacher's liberation, There is not even the name of sin. If discriminating thoughts do not become certainty, Even a moment's agitation of the mind, Is like the three lower realms. Therefore, Raja (Tibetan: རཱ་ཛ, Sanskrit Devanagari:, Sanskrit Roman transliteration: rāja, Chinese literal meaning: King) occupies the land.
