Distinguishing. Consciousness is not severed separately. Awareness pervades the expanse, wisdom expands everywhere, and the nature of reality merges into awareness. Son of lineage, thus, although the appearance of self-nature and the Dharmakaya are spoken of and symbolized, their meaning is non-dual as before. Therefore, they merge into the infinite expanse, and the infinite expanse pervades the entirety of the center and the periphery. The meaning is the sole, non-dual Dharmakaya. Why is that? Because it is the possessor of an unsevered object. Moreover, in the unsevered awareness, grasping and conceptualization do not arise, and it is not grasped as an object. Although there is no duality of grasper and grasped, it possesses the great self-appearance of the object. Therefore, it can manifest in the light of wisdom. Thus, "possessor of an object" is a term of possession. The essence condensed into quintessence is that the essence of the expanse is awareness. Its essence is the five self-radiant lights of wisdom. Its essence is the five bodies of qualities. Son of lineage, the quintessence should also be combined in the same way. Condensed because there is an illusory appearance of wisdom. What is the example? Like the sky and the sun. Son of lineage, the appearance of self-nature is like the sky without clouds. The body of self-nature is like the essence of the sun. Thus, it is spoken in conjunction with the great commentary on meaning. From the Tantra of the Greatly Illuminating Bindu, the second chapter, which explains the way of abiding of the great appearance of the ground. Then, the Bhagavan, the Great Vajradhara, again entered into the samadhi of the nature of the ground. Then, the Lord of Secrets asked: "O, O, Bhagavan Vajradhara! The self-nature, definition, characteristics, distinctions, and refutations of others of the ground, please explain them in order without error." Thus he asked. Then, the Bhagavan arose from the samadhi and spoke: "Son of lineage, the self-nature of the ground is non-dual. The definition is that the ground is so called because everything arises from it. Or, the ground is so called because it is the basis of both samsara and nirvana. The characteristic is the five wisdoms. The distinctions are three: the Alaya of the essential meaning is the true ground. The Alaya that accumulates various things is the eight aggregates of consciousness mixed with habitual tendencies. The Alaya of the meaning of reality is an example of the eight ways of abiding. The refutation of others is: by abiding in awareness, it refutes matter. By abiding in emptiness, it refutes substance. Because it is non-dual,

Eliminate dualistic appearances. Because it is self-arisen, eliminate causes and conditions. Because it is spontaneously accomplished, eliminate hope and doubt. Because it is pure, eliminate defilements. Because of the existence of non-existence, eliminate the extreme of nihilism. Because of the non-existence of existence, eliminate the extreme of eternalism. O Vajra Holder, hold it well! The basis of the true meaning is that it also turns away from things that are similar to itself. It is only similar to awareness and is liberated from the eight consciousnesses. How is it liberated? Because there is no increase or decrease, it is liberated from the alaya consciousness. Because there is no self-grasping, it is liberated from the afflicted mind. Because there is no grasping of subject and object, it is liberated from the mind. Because there is no birth or cessation, it is liberated and turns away from the five sense consciousnesses. O Lord of Secrets! It also turns away from things that are similar to emptiness. It is not the naturally pure sky with color, nor is it with habitual tendencies. O Great Bodhisattva! It also turns away from things that are dissimilar. It is not matter that is dissimilar to awareness. It is not a thing that is composed and produced from the four internal and external elements that are dissimilar to emptiness. Son of lineage, great meaning, know that it turns away from both. It is free from grasping things that are not both. From the Tantra of the Great All-Illuminating Bindu, the third chapter explaining the meaning of the basis. Then, the Bhagavan again entered into contemplation on the meaning of the symbolic examples. Then, the Lord of Secrets again asked: O, O Bhagavan Vajradhara! Please speak about such symbolic examples. Thus he asked. The Bhagavan replied: Vajra Holder, listen! I will explain the metaphors and symbols of the great appearance of the basis. Unwavering like the ocean. Empty, vast, and pervasive like the sky. Immaculate like crystal. Pure, clear, and untouched like a mirror and an image. Appearing in various ways but not stained by defilements like a lotus. Unchanging like a vajra and an elephant. The source of all things like the earth. Although not actually visible, blessings arise like a wish-fulfilling jewel. One's own essence is clear and unceasing like the heart of the sun. Continuous like a river. Stable like a mountain. One appearing as many like the sun and moon. One pervading all like a water bubble.
