First. Then, to the assembled retinue, The Omniscient Teacher, the Dharma Lord, spoke, The nature of reality, the way things are: Since the dharmas of samsara and nirvana Are not truly present in the ground, On the dharmakaya of self-aware realization, The appearance of images is not obstructed, This is the way things are, certain of reality. This naturally arising awareness from the beginning, From the beginning is truly recognized, Without action and without anything to accomplish, This too is the way things are. The meaning of naturally abiding within oneself, The dharmakaya that does not arise from elsewhere, Not born from causes, without self, This too is the way things are. The dharmakaya of naturally arising essence, Since it is unmade and uncorrupted, Unmistaken, just as it is, unobstructed, This too is the way things are. Since the three times are certain as one, The unborn, undying wisdom, Not coming, not going, eternally abiding, This too is the way things are. Naturally arising awareness is self-luminous, Since it does not pervade everything, Without anything to look at, there are no terms, This too is the way things are. That non-material, self-aware wisdom, Beyond conception, without example to illustrate it, Inconceivable, beyond thought, This too is the way things are. That essence of naturally arising essence, Not born from causes, without conditions, Not a thing, without permanence or annihilation, This too is the way things are. In the dharmadhatu of self-luminous appearance, Free from elaboration, without exaggeration or denigration, Without beginning or end, without cause or effect, This too is the way things are. Now, Vajrasattva, listen! The ground is one, without any contradiction, It is the way things are for all the Buddhas. From the Great Perfection, the Precious Compilation of Definitive Meaning, the Second Chapter: Showing the Way Things Are, the Reality of Dharma. Then, to the assembled gathering, The Omniscient King spoke: The order of meaningful containers and contents, The meaning of truly certain Buddhahood, Is the root of all secret mantras. Having completed the empowerments in order, Without contradicting the scriptures of the Dharma, Having thoroughly trained in all hearing and contemplation, It is the secret of the definitive meaning, the lineage of the teachings, Possessing the treasure of the treasury of the holy ones, Even if asked for, it is inexhaustible, That lama, vajra master, Without pretense, possessing confidence, Like a lion in the forest, Even dwelling alone, it is meaningful, It is the intention of the Buddhas.
