Saying doesn't quench thirst. Wanting to drink water, saying 'drink water' will surely lead to encountering water. Similarly, for those who want to understand the meaning of non-existence, teaching with existent things will not lead to understanding. Teaching with non-existent things will lead to understanding the unborn. Likewise, the reality of things should be explained by combining examples and meanings. Please grasp the meaning of Vajrasattva. The calmness of the ocean, the field, the king's treasury, and gold are said to be examples symbolizing the basis of reality. When the ocean is calm, there are no protrusions, depressions, highs and lows, hills and valleys, it exists in a state of equality. There are four aspects of the basis: the pervasive basis, the abiding basis, the moving basis, and the arising basis. Just like the example of the calm ocean, the abiding basis also abides in this way: It is not sentient beings, not Buddha; not samsara, not nirvana; not ignorance, not wisdom; not conceptual thought, not dharmata; not happiness, not suffering; without symbols, without words, without names, without expressions; without teaching, without showing, without hearing; unspeakable, without object, without thought; without appearance, without existence, without attachment; without object, without mind, without distinction; without self, without possession, without division; without inside, without outside, without grasper and grasped; without enemy, without friend, without partiality; without father, without mother, without birth; without place, without dwelling, without attachment; without essence, without container, without samsara; without center, without edge, without direction. Without white, without black, without color. For all these, there is no knowing, no mind, no thought; no object, no pointing, no attachment. That nature beyond speech, thought, and expression, cannot be made with the mind, cannot be calculated, cannot be modified by reason, cannot be placed in the mind. The nature of all these is the reality of the nature of things. There is no label of Buddha, no label of sentient beings; no label of teacher, no label of taught; it transcends the limits of language and letters. The reality where the eight consciousnesses are not their objects, ignorance and wisdom exist equally, the door of appearance and the door of delusion exist equally, conceptual thought and dharmata exist equally, Buddha and sentient beings exist equally, samsara and nirvana exist equally, happiness and suffering exist equally, existing in a state of equality. This is called the abiding basis. The pervasive basis is like this: just as oil pervades sesame seeds, from the highest mandala of the victorious ones to the lowest assemblies of hell.

Contained by the form of beings, it universally abides in all. This is said to be the basis of pervasion. The basis of movement is as follows: On the pre-existing basis, it initially moves. On the initial basis, it inherently moves. On the inherent basis, nature moves. On the basis of nature, the pervasive basis moves. On the pervasive basis, primordial wind moves. On the basis of primordial wind, tholongs move. This is said to be the basis of movement. The basis of arising is as follows: From the primordial wind thol, a slightly moving part arises. From that, a slight mind arises. From that, it arises in the form of rays. From that, the universal ground of all arises. From that, the nature of arising arises. From that, it transforms into the form of light. When unobstructed rays of light shine forth, it becomes the branch of skillful appearance. Skillful appearance does not form into something else, but dissolves back into the light. When the clear light of the child dissolves into the light, mother and child are inseparable, and one is primordially enlightened. When one dissolves into one's own place of origin, light and rays meet and one takes hold of one's own ground. Sealed with the seal of non-deception and non-arising, it arises from the heart essence. Kuntuzangpo (Samantabhadra) is primordially enlightened. Without effort or cause, spontaneously arising, one is primordially enlightened. Like precious gold, it remains unchanging in all ways. Thus, with the four arisings, merging into the mother of arising, dissolving into the space of wisdom, meeting with the mother of dharmata, taking hold of one's own ground of non-arising, and sealed with the seal of immutability, with these five, the inexpressible realm is manifestly enlightened. It is the primordial Buddha of the ground. Like a king's treasury, large and small treasures appear. Precious gold and turquoise appear. Rice and beans appear. Things of great and small value appear. Similarly, from the great treasury of the universal ground, ignorance and wisdom arise. Buddhas and sentient beings arise. Samsara and nirvana arise. Discursive thoughts and dharmata arise. Happiness and suffering arise. Joy and displeasure arise. Ego and non-ego arise. Objects and mind arise, and non-duality arises. Bias and non-bias arise. These and so forth are said to be the basis of arising. Thus it is said. The blazing jewel-like light-sword that completely severs the root of illusory appearances, the sky.
