Transformation. If such a time occurs, If teaching the Dharma to the Sangha, Examine whether there are those who have broken vows, are dull-witted, or harbor grudges. Make them confess and repent. Pledge to uphold the vows, Fully reveal the essence of the instructions. If these are shown to those who are not ready, Like a meteorite sinking into the earth, The Dakinis will surely take their lives and they will fall. Therefore, do not teach the Dharma without examination. From the Great Perfection, Cutting the Root of Samsara, Dharmakaya, the Wisdom Continuum of No-Birth, The chapter on showing the basis of meaning, the first.

In what way? Please, O Impartial King, speak. Having heard these words, the King of All-Knowing Mind bestowed instructions on the distinctions of example, meaning, and difference. As the five elements pervade, so does the mind pervade. The five elements have no awareness; therefore, the five elements are Bodhicitta. Showing similarity in some aspects, they are shown as examples. Like fire blazing in the middle of the ocean, one cannot harm the other. Similarly, if the beginning, end, and root of ignorance and wisdom are not severed, the qualities of Nirvana will not arise, so how can one overcome Samsara? For example, just as a great Garuda transforms the ocean itself into nectar with jewels, so too does a Buddha subdue sentient beings. If one does not realize during the time of sentient beings, how can the five poisons be self-liberated? Even in equanimity, post-meditation is important. If one does not know post-meditation as the view, one will not attain Buddhahood by meditating in sessions. Through realization based on scripture, if one does not know the instructions for the four times, how can inseparable wisdom arise? Therefore, through instructions with scripture, by realizing the meaning of the five Bardos, one attains the wisdom body of the Buddha King. By realizing this meaning, grasping and conceptualization subside. By realizing the meaning of scripture, conceptualization flees. Samsara and Nirvana, the elements are completely destroyed in purity. Both abandonment and accumulation are grasped without loss. Attachment to permanence and annihilation is reduced to dust. High and low realms become false. Attachment and aversion arise, and Samadhi becomes clear. The greater the distraction, the greater the bliss increases. Now listen to the essence of the gathering. If this wisdom view is absent, no matter what compassion for the benefit of beings is practiced, the actions are meaningless works of demons. It will not become a favorable condition, but will remain a place of severance. Therefore, realization is extremely important. The Great Perfection cuts Samsara from the root, from the lineage of the unborn awareness of the Dharmakaya, the third chapter divided by example, meaning, and difference. Now listen again, Vajrasattva. For all sentient beings in the six realms, the essence of self-arisen wisdom exists whether realized or not. To represent its suchness, like space, a young Garuda, a cuckoo, and a young lion, a lotus, and silver stone, there is no identifiable place, nor is it obstructed by external conditions. In the womb, the Dharmakaya wisdom exists. Once recognized, it can be overwhelmed by inferior views. As soon as it is shown, the wisdom body appears. From within the afflictions, self-arisen light arises. Effortlessly, naturally, it has always existed. Therefore, the ground is unchanging. Now listen again, Vajrasattva. The necessity of becoming a Buddha.

My mind is difficult to fathom, The minds of sentient beings cannot comprehend its meaning. With the essential root instructions, Whatever conduct arises, spontaneously manifesting wisdom. Without beginning and without end, Beyond this present awareness, There is nothing better to attain. Have faith that the Dharmakaya has eyes and a face, Therefore, samsara and nirvana are inseparable. Above all outer and inner phenomena, Before both Buddhas and sentient beings. The essence that cannot be seen, the basis of all, Like space, the sun, and precious jewels. Like the earth, the ocean, and mountains, Inconceivable of edge and center, one's own mind. The clear and unobscured Dharmakaya, Virtues spontaneously accomplished. For the arising of samsara and nirvana, the basis of all, Unwavering, therefore inconceivable. Unchanging, therefore without gathering and scattering. Now, listen again to the essence of gathering. For the practitioner with the karma of a pure yogi, By recognizing with the mind and understanding the meaning, The Kuntuzangpo Dharmakaya is now, Enlightened in a base body. From the Great Perfection that cuts off the root of samsara, the continuum of the unborn awareness of the Dharmakaya, the fourth chapter explaining the meaning, the reality of Dharmata. Vajrasattva again asked: From the nature of Dharmata, In reality, where do the eight consciousnesses of samsara arise? How are the views of outsiders and the correct view, The secret mantra and great secret, mistaken? What are the faults of practice and meditation? Where do karmic obscurations and samsara reside? I beseech the King of All-Illuminating Awareness to explain. Having heard the meaning of the request, he commanded: The arising of delusion from that is, At the beginning, the two of the six extremes. The eight collections of Alaya consciousness, Are one's own mind, not the Dharmakaya. Rising upward, erring downward, samsara and nirvana arise. Listen again to the essence of gathering. Like the radiance of the rising sun, Initially, awareness is unpredicted. Although it is the power of my own Dharmata, Because it is unpredicted, it is subject to conditions. At the beginning of the arising of samsara and nirvana, With the basis of delusion and so forth, From ignorance arise eight kinds of delusion. With four conditions, grasping and fixation are conceived, When cause and condition come together, The essence of self-arisen awareness, Like a blind person, obscures itself, Due to not knowing, it wanders in samsara. Now, Vajrasattva, listen again, With the five senses and the eight consciousnesses, Like separately holding and increasing distinctions, Habitual tendencies of samsara are strengthened. Therefore,
