Body settles down. People rely on boats, Liberate from the river of suffering, Reach the shore of Nirvana. Settle the mind with teachings, The mind is the root of the Buddha, When the mind merges into itself, There is no other Dharma more supreme than this. Thus it is said. From the "Precious Noble Path Sutra," the object of the completely knowing continuum, and the seventh chapter, the settling chapter. Vajrasattva again asked: King of Wisdom, All-Knowing One, When the appearance of delusion ceases, Please reveal the appearance of the Bardo. The All-Illuminating Teacher taught: Thus, after the appearance has ceased, In order to know the appearance of the other shore, The appearance of the Bardo is like this: Previously arising with a fleshly body, All senses complete, without obstruction, From the common ground of upward and downward, Not turning back, that is decline. Like the self-appearance of wisdom, like a lotus in the mud, Like the place of birth of existence, like a great palace, Like the dregs of time, like a cliff on the road, The two of birth and death, like buckets drawing water. Arising from the path, clearly illuminated, When attachment arises to it, it is completely obscured, By the power of realization, possessing five kinds of bliss, From movement and non-movement, only the mind wavers. Various forms arise from the mind, The distinctions of that, Should be known as six kinds. The Bardo of abiding nature, The Bardo of Samadhi, The Bardo of the two of birth and death, Likewise, the Bardo of existence, The Bardo of dream sleep, The Bardo of the clear nature of Dharma. Thus it is said. Vajrasattva again asked: All-Illuminating Teacher, Dharma Lord! Understanding that meaning is very difficult, Please speak the teachings that include metaphors and meanings. Having heard the meaning of this question, The All-Illuminating Teacher taught: In the Bardo of abiding nature, What is not known, recognize it. Like an orphan meeting its mother, The mother is emptiness, the son is clarity, The person who knows mother and son, Will be liberated from that. In the Bardo of Samadhi, What is not clear, make it clear, Like a maiden looking in a mirror, By mind looking at mind, Dualistic thoughts will be exhausted. In the Bardo of the two of birth and death, Holding with the eye of wisdom, Like raising a lamp in a dark cave, Understanding the meaning with symbolic words,

Through the wisdom of assembled interdependence, the darkness of ignorance will be dispelled. In the bardo of the impossible becoming possible, the continuation of good and bad karma is like a broken-legged canal with stakes driven in. Through the asceticism of relying on antidotes, the desired fruit will be obtained. In the bardo of sleep and dreams, knowing that whatever appears is mind, is like searching elsewhere in the land of the Brahmins. In the realization that all is mind, there is no good or bad, benefit or harm. In the bardo of the clear nature of reality, the naked appearance of wisdom is like a shooting star streaking across the sky. The irreversible awareness, after the elements have dissolved into their own place, at the time when consciousness dissolves into light, habitual patterns will be liberated from the body. Thus it is said. From the Tantra of the Arrangement of the Precious Noble Path, the eighth chapter, which explains the distinctions of the bardo. Vajrasattva again asked: Omniscient Teacher, Dharma Lord! From the body and speech of the Tathagata, how do the outer and inner emanations appear? To whom should the teacher of those to be tamed be? The Omniscient Teacher replied: In the body, speech, and mind of the Buddhas, the emanations are inconceivable, in all directions and times, all the Buddhas that exist are emanations of me, the Omniscient One, and there is not even a particle of a Buddha other than me. Know that whatever appears outwardly and inwardly is the Omniscient One. Among the emanations of the body of the Buddhas, such as Dipamkara, the appearance of the seven Buddhas of the past was also me. Among the emanations of the speech of the Buddhas, the thousand Buddhas of the Fortunate Aeon, and the hundred thousand assemblies of Bodhisattvas, the Omniscient Teacher is me. Among the emanations of the mind of the Sugatas, the peaceful and wrathful Buddhas, and the five families of fathers and mothers, are me. Before I existed, there was not even the name of Buddha, nor was there a place of birth for sentient beings. All are emanations of me. I am the Buddha of the ground. The three inner emanations: From the emanation of the body of the Sugata, in the supreme place of Akanishta, the Bhagavan Vairochana appeared. The three families of protectors, outer and inner, and the Bodhisattvas of the ten bhumis, do not teach the Dharma with speech, but show the measurement of the Dharma with the body. From the emanation of the speech of the Sugata, the Vajra Throne of Jambudvipa.
