The Second Chapter, Absence. Then, the Bhagavan again spoke to himself, by himself: This essence of the mandala is the four bodies. The mandala of the mudra, the body, has been enjoyed from the beginning. This vast expanse of complete and total perfection, Is without an object of sight, free from action, nirvana. In the sky, earth, water, fire, and wind are complete. In this essence of wisdom, all dharmas are completely perfected. The arising of body, wisdom, and qualities, Are images arising from oneself, therefore, Whatever appears to the mind is said to be a diversion from the essence. The self-awareness of the supreme, unsurpassed, is thus. Without thought, without distraction, without focus, such is its nature. It is not spoken of as sacred; it is placed just as it is. Because speaking, thinking, and conceptualizing are involved, one should not think. One should not analyze philosophical tenets; such is its nature. It is the endless, true end; it transcends ends. One should not look at it as an object; it is placed just as it is. One should not abandon the mind that places it; one should place it in equanimity. Meditating on destroying emptiness with mudras is a diversion. The supreme mudra is without a place to dwell, without a place of dwelling. One should strive to remain in its natural state, just as it is, without an object. Like a fool, one should not think of anything. The essence of the mandala of Samantabhadra, Is the great bindu that unites everything completely. Like a king, one dwells in the state of greatness. Possessing the retinue of others, the conventional is without gathering or dispersal. Like an ocean, gathering and arising, its depths are unfathomable. Nirvana and samsara arise spontaneously, perfectly complete. It is without comparison, immeasurable, and extremely profound. Like a vajra, it is indestructible, without gathering or dispersal. It abides in the same way with all wisdom mandalas. Like the fire at the end of an eon, it abides as one. Phenomena and existence are primordially vast, and it dwells alone. Spontaneously complete, skillful in means, possessing the womb of samsara. Like the offspring of a garuda, a lion, and a king, From the womb, like an antidote, they subdue the power of others. Without cultivating an antidote, it is naturally like an antidote. The path is without dwelling, without a place of dwelling, without an object of focus. This essence of equality, without separating cause and effect, Is the antidote to samsara and nirvana. Without cultivating an antidote, it naturally abides as an antidote. A swift bird breaks its egg and soars into the sky. Without relying on scriptures, it is inexpressible by letters. The near path, blissfully complete, free from action, spontaneously perfect, Does not rely on the gateway path; it is primordially vast. Like a great garuda spreading its wings, unattached to the sky, It conquers all vehicles, unsurpassed.

The vast place. Without attachment to the original ground, bliss is naturally complete. Like a young garuda growing in the egg. The self-nature of unborn Suchness. Likewise, it grows from the sphere of the bindu. If this dharma of non-action is not seen, The ground of all-illuminating light will never be seen in kalpas. From the lineage of the great garuda of bodhichitta, The third chapter, which teaches the means of meditation, Suchness and characteristics. Then, the Bhagavan, the glorious Samantabhadra himself, spoke to himself: Like a great garuda that does not dwell in the sky or on the ground, All gathered, all space, the wish-fulfilling jewel of all. No object, no birth, no cessation, no appearance. Not seeking Buddhahood, is Suchness itself. Since everything is spontaneously accomplished, there is no action. Realizing that the completion of the ten bhumis is the very holding and understanding of it, One does not abide in that either, being free from the place of abiding and what is abided in. Desiring the path where there is no path confuses the place of going. Hoping to obtain the fruit, one fears and does not see the meaning. Approaching the true limit, one is separated from the scriptures. Wishing for Suchness, one does not find happiness. By abandoning desirable qualities and afflictions, one does not attain enlightenment. Turning one's back on samsara, one will not transcend suffering. The ground and the path of the paramitas are endless and without limit. Meditating on apparent existence as a mudra, one will not attain Buddhahood. The teachings of bodhichitta, the true and sacred teachings. If not decided by the king of teachings, One will not find the meaning by speaking false and meaningless words. Not abiding in anything, even the nature of not abiding is transcended. Approaching the water of a mirage, one does not find water. Holding onto the two truths, one does not find the meaning with letters. Like a bird flying or a prince, Not spoken by others, its own nature is thus from the beginning. Not destroyed by valid cognition, it is the valid cognition of the teachings. Subduing the three measures of delusion, establishing the verbal path of discrimination. Because this exists in the dharma deceived by children, Therefore, on this unsurpassed path, this meaning is not needed, immeasurable teachings. With small wisdom, one speculates on this and travels the path. Desiring this, this does not abide in that, it is the space of discrimination. Truly impossible, bodhi is without root. All-pervading, primordially enlightened, without inside or outside. One does not proceed with words, there is no attainment of fruit. The great garuda's body grows, its wings are complete, Like not seeking from elsewhere, it is complete from the beginning. Realizing the vajra as unborn and undying, that alone is it. Entering, seeing, guarding, completing the perfections, completing the bhumis. The mandala of the mudra
