It is like returning empty-handed from an island. Fifth, to encourage the turning of the Dharma wheel. Because even for a short time, if it does not become for the benefit of many sentient beings, then by praying that the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas do not pass into sorrow, one's own mindstream will be completely purified, and the vast accumulation of merit will be perfected. If the merit accumulated in this way is not dedicated to the attainment of omniscient Buddhahood for all sentient beings, oneself and others, through special means and wisdom, then one will only experience temporary small benefits and fruits, and it will disappear, so it should be dedicated to the supreme state of omniscient Buddhahood. Second, the actual aspiration. Thus, the main goal to be pursued is the state of omniscient Buddhahood. It is impossible for the path to arise without having been practiced before. And the practice of the path depends entirely on the excellent support of the human body with leisure and opportunity, so first, one should aspire to obtain leisure and opportunity and make it meaningful. What does it mean for leisure and opportunity to be meaningful? First, one should rely on a true spiritual friend. In the middle, one should strive in listening, thinking, and meditating. The result is that one needs to be able to benefit the Buddha's teachings with the two wheels of scripture and realization. But even if one strives without intense and continuous effort, it will not happen. And diligence needs to be urged on by the iron hook of remembering impermanence and death, so that one engages in the Dharma without interruption. So, second, one should aspire to remember impermanence and death. Even if one remembers death in this way, it is useless to only meditate on the weariness of thinking about death. At the time of death, there is no one who can bring benefit or harm except for the results of one's own actions. Third, on the path common to the small person, one should aspire to develop firm faith in cause and effect. Even if one gains some certainty about cause and effect in this way and pretends to accept and reject, if one does not recognize that all of samsara is suffering and turn one's mind away, then even if one does good, one will not transcend the cause of samsara, and the small pleasures of samsara are meaningless. Fourth, on the path common to the middling person, one should aspire to develop revulsion towards the places of samsara. Having recognized that all of samsara is suffering, even if one only generates the thought of wanting to be liberated from it, all mother sentient beings, who have nurtured one with kindness since beginningless time, are tormented by various kinds of suffering.
