In Tibetan language: A Summary of the Meaning of the Ornament of the Sutras. Homage to the Holy Maitreya. I shall explain, free from the three faults of not explaining, explaining, and explaining perversely. These are the teacher, the teacher's words, the Dharma to be taught, and the unsurpassed means to be taught. The first has three aspects: the distinction of the teacher, the cessation of stinginess, and the meaningfulness of teaching the Dharma. The eight verses beginning with \"The words of the Bodhisattva are not weak\" are the words of the teacher. The Ornament of the Sutras, taught by Maitreya, is the one Dharma to be taught, the supreme vehicle that is the antidote to the eight faults. The unsurpassed means of teaching it are twofold: profound and vast. That is explained by way of possessing three aspects: sound is explained by way of necessarily giving rise to conceptualization; practice is explained by way of taking up practice; and the nature of Bodhicitta is explained by way of possessing it. That is also summarized in the three baskets and explained from four aspects. Thus, if the meaning of the text is summarized, there are five aspects: that which is to be accomplished, that which is to be known distinctly, that which is to be thought about, that which is inconceivable, and the ultimate meaning of perfect accomplishment. The five, such as name and reason, are not established because they are not established as the subject matter in the text, and because they are not the unsurpassed mode of attainment. What then? It shows the nature of the five aspects of the unsurpassed mode of attainment. Thus, connecting it with the previous and connecting it with the subsequent, both are the intention of Maitreya. Connecting it with the previous can be known from the lineage of the Uttaratantra. This is Vasubandhu's explanation connecting it with the subsequent: the object to be learned, that is, the great vehicle is clearly established; the object of generating the mind, that is, the supreme refuge; the cause of approaching, that is, the teaching of the lineage of the great vehicle. It is summarized as the three to be accomplished.

There are two things to be understood: generating Bodhicitta and understanding in detail the perfect benefits of oneself and others. There are two things to be contemplated: the profound emptiness and the skillful means of vast methods. There are two things that are inconceivable: the inconceivable powers of clairvoyance, etc., and the inconceivable complete maturation of oneself and others through joy and faith, etc. The meaning of complete accomplishment is only one: the ultimate perfect realization of enlightenment. How is this to be understood? Because it has been said, "At the time of practice." Ultimately, one also obtains the stainlessness of all faults, the omniscience of all kinds. Just as there are hundreds of thousands of precious vessels, the Buddha himself is also truly shown. Because it is said like this. Precisely because of this, from the initial vows, etc., up to enlightenment, in the form of verses, it shows the meaning of the object to be trained in being completely perfect. So how should one train? It is taught starting from faith, etc. It is said like this. The Lord explains with a simile like the flow of a river, starting first from the supreme Great Vehicle, faith arises. From faith arises the seeking of Dharma. To teach the Dharma, one relies on a virtuous friend. Then one diligently engages in practice. Because it is said by its own name, "At the time of practice," it is the meaning of what should be practiced. What should be understood in detail is the correct oral instruction and the subsequent teachings. What should be contemplated is the time when emptiness is profound and one is skilled in vast methods. There are also three kinds of methods: summarized by the four objects of gathering and the six perfections with skillful means, and the four immeasurables, showing the offering of the Three Jewels, etc., summarized by actions, showing the conducive Dharmas of enlightenment. What is inconceivable is the time of qualities. What is completely accomplished is the meaning of understanding individually with one's own wisdom, it is the ultimate time. In this way, the entire body of the treatise is completely summarized, and symbolically arranged with five metaphors, not combined with the following text. What is combined with the preceding text and comes through the lineage of realization is this, the meaning of entering the Great Vehicle.
