If contemplating being tormented by jealousy also produces such suffering, how can one be justified in being jealous of others? In this way, jealousy will naturally subside. Similarly, when contemplating competitiveness by viewing oneself as equal to others, one places oneself in the position of an enemy equal to oneself, places the enemy in one's own position, and contemplates the enemy competing with oneself from all directions. When that contemplation is resolved, such a thought arises: If contemplating oneself as the enemy, being harmed and competed with by others, also produces such suffering, then how can one be justified in harming others and generating competitiveness? In this way, competitiveness will naturally subside. Similarly, when contemplating pride, one places oneself in a position lower than oneself, places the one lower than oneself in one's own position, and allows the one higher than oneself to generate pride towards the one lower than oneself in terms of lineage, qualities, and so on. When that contemplation is finished, if others generate pride towards me, I will experience such suffering, therefore how can I generate pride towards others? In this way, pride will naturally subside. These meanings should be practiced in detail as they appear in the Bodhicharyavatara. If one cannot contemplate that much, and wishes to contemplate in brief, then,

It is entering the realm of egolessness. First, the nature of wisdom is: during meditative equipoise, knowing all phenomena to be emptiness; in the post-meditation state, knowing them to be unreal like illusions and dreams, this is the nature of wisdom. Second, it is entering the realm of egolessness: Cultivating the egolessness of persons and the egolessness of phenomena. First, for those who are ignorant, the basis upon which the accumulator and the experiencer of results are designated as the self, or the person, or the individual, or the sentient being, etc., is that basis one with the three doors of body, speech, and mind? Is it different? Is it material? Is it consciousness? Is it permanent? Is it impermanent? Like this, examining and analyzing with various reasonings, due to the influence of mental confusion, one grasps at self where there is no self, and grasps at other where there is no other. Apart from these, from the perspective of the self-established nature of meaning, there is not even a little self or sentient being that can be determined. Second, cultivating the egolessness of phenomena begins with the four mindfulnesses. First, the mindfulness of body is: like this, all phenomena included in samsara and nirvana, which are apparent existences, also appear only in one's own mind, and are only designated by the mind. Apart from this, there is not even a little. And the mind itself also relies on the body, and is under the control of the body. Therefore, one should examine the body. Is the so-called body one with or different from this collection of limbs? Or where did the body originally come from? Where does it currently exist in the middle? Where will it ultimately go? And so on, examine and abide in the meaning of the body's lack of inherent existence. Furthermore, if attachment to the body arises, one should contemplate the impurity of one's own and others' bodies, like illusions and dreams, etc., and thereby abandon attachment to the body. Second, the mindfulness of feelings is: these feelings of pleasure and pain are the root of all afflictions such as craving and grasping. Therefore, one should examine whether they are one with or different from the mind, etc., and cultivate the meaning of the egolessness of feelings, and contemplate that all other feelings are suffering and without essence, etc. Third, the mindfulness of mind is: this continuum of consciousness, the mind, which is included in the six aggregates, appears in many ways such as before and after, good and bad, etc. Are these one? Are they different? Liking and disliking, faith and lack of faith, Dharma and non-Dharma, joy and sorrow, attachment and aversion, etc., are these minds that appear one? Are they diffe

Therefore, examine such questions as these. If the mind is one, then what is the cause for the appearance of many emotions such as joy, sorrow, attachment, and hatred in a single mind? If it is thought that these arise temporarily due to circumstances, then what is the nature of the mind itself that has not been changed by any circumstance and has not encountered any object? Does it exist? Does it not exist? Is it permanent? Is it impermanent? Examine such questions repeatedly and establish that the mind is without foundation or root. Fourth, the establishment of mindfulness of the Dharma: Thus, all dharmas encompassed by consciousness, formations (or "fabrications"), and the unconditioned, which are other than the three—body, feeling, and mind—are also born from causes, conditions, and interdependence. Therefore, establish that their nature is emptiness, not truly existent, and free from all extremes of elaboration. On the conventional level, study the ocean of practices of abandoning the seven attachments through illusory, dreamlike play; on the ultimate level, practice without attachment to anything, knowing that not even a particle of all dharmas is inherently established. The only medicine for the suffering of beings, The source of all happiness, May the teachings, along with gain and respect, Remain long in this world. This was also spoken by Abu Halepo. Auspicious!
