The Sun of Clear Elucidation: A Meditation Manual on Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life. The Sun of Clear Elucidation: A Meditation Manual on Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life. Herein lies the treatise entitled "The Sun of Clear Elucidation: A Meditation Manual on Entering the Bodhisattva's Way of Life." To the Sugata, possessor of the Dharmakaya, together with his sons, and to all worthy of reverence, I respectfully prostrate. To enter the discipline of the Sugata's sons, I shall speak concisely, as taught in the scriptures. There are four aspects to this: who enters, the individual as the basis; the intention with which one enters; the method of how one enters; and the result of having entered in this way. First, the individual as the basis is one who has obtained leisure and endowments and possesses faith and compassion. Second, the intention is to generate the mind of enlightenment, which has two aspects: aspiration and engagement. The first is: as it is said, "For the sake of others, one desires perfect and complete enlightenment," which is the intention to attain Buddhahood for the benefit of others. The second is: to vow to train in the practices of the Buddhas' sons. Such a mind of enlightenment should be cultivated within one's own mindstream. If receiving it from a lama, one should follow the ritual of either the Madhyamaka or Yogacara school. Here, the method of taking the vows oneself has three parts: preparation, main part, and conclusion. First, the preparation has three aspects: generating joy in the benefits, as described in the first chapter of the Bodhicharyavatara. Accumulating merit and purifying obscurations, performing the seven-branch practice. First, in the presence of the field of merit, the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas visibly present, all sentient beings, oneself and others, together remembering the qualities of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and contemplating offering the seven-branch practice. First is the branch of offering. Actually arranging offerings of flowers, incense, lamps, pure water for washing, various foods and drinks, and whatever offerings are available. Offering with imagination the precious mountains, delightful forests, secluded and pleasant places, and all that exists in the ten directions of the world, this is the offering not possessed by oneself. Second, offering with the precious mind and so forth. The Buddhas and their sons offering their own three doors as servants. Offering with the mind's emanations, such as bathing houses. In addition, offering with the power of aspiration. Making the unsurpassed offering like Manjushri and others. Offering the sounds of praise with the ocean of qualities and so forth. Offering respectful prostrations with abiding in the three times and so forth.

Eighth, from the bottom of your heart, remember the meaning of the words. These should also be offered in the pure realm, in front of the Three Jewels, with pure objects, not mixed with sins, not bound by stinginess, and with a pure mind, without expecting rewards and retribution. Second, taking refuge. In the face of the special object, the uncommon Three Jewels of the Mahayana, with a special intention, for the benefit of all sentient beings, until complete enlightenment is attained, think of taking refuge, and recite the essence of Bodhicitta etc. three times. Third, confessing sins, with "ཕྱོགས་རྣམས་སོགས་" etc., pray to the object of confession to know, and for the sins committed in the past, it is like being poisoned. The object of reliance is the Three Jewels, which is like a doctor who cures poison. The antidote is the supreme Dharma, which is like medicine. The vow of not committing sins in the future is like the essence of nourishing the body, nectar, and generating these four cognitions. With "ཐོག་མ་མེད་ལྡན་སོགས་" etc., generate the power of breaking through. Therefore, the Buddhas etc. are the power of reliance. With "ཐ་མལ་ནད་ཀྱིས་སོགས་" etc., generate the power of antidote behavior. With the two lines "འདི་ནི་བཟང་པོ་ཞེས་", generate the power of guarding, all of these must be done from the bottom of your heart. Fourth, rejoice, for all the roots of virtue and their fruits in the world and beyond, you must feel happy and rejoice from the bottom of your heart. All beings etc. Fifth, urge to turn the wheel of Dharma. Sixth, pray not to enter Nirvana. Seventh, dedication etc., remember the meaning of the words "ཕྱོགས་རྣམས་སོགས་" etc. After that, practice purifying the mind, with the body and so on, dedicate your own body, enjoyment, the roots of virtue accumulated in the three times, etc., without any stinginess, for the purpose of accomplishing the benefit of sentient beings, and for all temporary and ultimate needs, the supreme cause, from the bottom of your heart, make aspirations to practice purifying the mind. Second, the main practice, with clear observation as the preliminary, recite the previous etc. three times, and at the same time initiate the aspiration and practice. Third, the ending, now we practice the happiness of self-interest. Start practicing the happiness of benefiting others with my today etc. After these, also recite the aspiration texts such as "བྱང་ཆུབ་སེམས་མཆོག་སོགས་". In this way, grasping the intention of generating Bodhicitta in one's own mindstream, that's it. Three.
