The Drum Sound of the Gods in Seclusion The Drum Sound of the Gods in Seclusion This is the Drum Sound of the Gods in Seclusion. Namo Guru Lokishwaraya. Taking boundless beings with utmost love, With deeds of wisdom and power beyond measure, the representative of all the victorious ones, I prostrate to the mind-hero. Relying on whom, one is never deceived, The precious Vinaya Sutra Abhidharma, the complete three trainings, the unequaled Lama's difficulties, And the essence of the nectar of oral instructions also protect. For the fortunate one who delights in the path of peace, To generate joy and happiness in such a mind, This speech of seclusion, like the drum sound of the gods, I will proclaim, and it is proper to act accordingly. Alas, in the city of illusion of samsara, Appearing as non-existent, with the merchandise of karma, Accumulating the storehouse of the three sufferings, Ignorant sentient beings wander like bees. Although the beings of existence are more numerous than dust particles, The aspects of happiness are rarer than morning stars, Who would not be weary in this realm of beings? Why not rejoice greatly in the Dharma of the Sugata? The beings of the degenerate age are very difficult to rely on, Like rakshasas, with angry dispositions, Associating with whom increases the accumulation of afflictions, Who would not be weary of evil companions? Accumulated and accumulated possessions, like honey, One does not use for oneself, let alone for the Dharma? At the time of death, the iron shackles of attachment, Are the very cause of binding one's own mind-stream. All the fame that is perfect and arrogant, Abandoning life in a state of distraction, At the time of death, suffering will arise, Thinking of this place, what is the use of wealth? Even if one were the lord of the three realms for hundreds of eons, How could one be satisfied with these objects of desire? Experiencing and experiencing, yet craving increases again, As much as one craves, it is certain to be the cause of existence. Enjoyment is pleasant, but the result is suffering, The temporary pleasure of existence is the cause of only bad migrations. If one examines carefully, in this realm of samsara, There is no possibility of even a needlepoint of happiness. Even those who are proud and hold arrogance, With the skull caps of a thousand arrogant ones bowing down in reverence, There is a time when they go to the end of servitude, What use is pride and conceit to me?

In this degenerate time, even the Buddha's teachings, Are used merely as images to pursue greatness in this life. There is no diligence in the states of scriptural understanding and realization, Therefore, hold the three trainings of your own mindstream as the essence of the teachings. When your own mind is focused on the Dharma, It is difficult to find anyone who agrees with you, Therefore, control your own pure mind, It is good to restrain the broad-mindedness that pleases everyone. Even a thousand Buddhas could not tame, What can a common person like me do for beings of this degenerate age? Therefore, make the aspiration for the benefit of others your goal, And strive to cultivate yourself on the path of the noble ones. While engaging in distracting delusions, they increase again and again, My own life is naturally and constantly consumed. If the enemy of death attacks on the path of distraction, How can I be rescued from that? If you can tame the difficult-to-tame mind, There is no greater achievement than that of a wise person, And there is no greater sign of accomplishment than that, The conduct of a monk is limited to just this. The outward appearance is adorned with embellishments and refinements, Even if others are pleased and speak praises, If you have not abandoned the eight worldly concerns in your own mind, Then this stream of a common person has many more bonds. In a degenerate time, merely being pleased with the appearance of friends, Is definitely a sign that your own mind is far from the Dharma. Merely opening the door to gain and respect, Is actually leading yourself to the door of the lower realms. Like a mirage deceiving a wild animal, a child is deluded by ignorance, Seeing this deception by the subtle allurements of worldly wealth, The wise should break the chains of attachment, And strive to practice in a secluded place. The secluded mountain hermitage is praised by the Buddha, It is relied upon by great kings, princes, and bodhisattvas. The source of all qualities, A precious place, By relying on this place, the path to liberation is near. There is no flattery of the high, no enslavement of the low, And no bondage of attachment and aversion to equals. Alone, with the white light of renunciation, You are beautiful as the moon in a secluded bed. Like the sun's mandala in the unattached sky, In a secluded place, you are like a thousand lights of vast learning. Even though surrounded by a beautiful array of countless invisible deities and stars, They are not a cause of distraction, but friends who practice the sacred Dharma. When ignorant beings abandon what they see, The supreme noble ones fully attend to what they see, The Buddhas, princes, and great bodhisattvas, Regard me as a son and brother.
