If it becomes like that, it is called taming the mind, gaining freedom over all dharmas. Therefore, taming the mind includes the three vehicles, without difference. If one well understands the nature of mind, one knows the three refuges to be in one's own mind. The supreme lama and one's heart-mind become one. Therefore, this is called 'gathering.' If one well understands the nature of mind, conceptual thoughts arise and dissolve on their own, the stream of conceptual thoughts' wisdom is never interrupted. Therefore, this is called 'gathering.' If one well understands the nature of mind, one gains freedom over both appearance and mind. In the expanse of dharmata, phenomena are tamed. Therefore, this is called 'gathering.' In the expanse of dharmata, the lama's heart and one's own mind-essence are not different. Abiding in that, all conceptual thoughts are pacified, and the delusion of the three poisons is well tamed. From the state of realizing that abandoning and adopting have one taste, one cherishes beings even more with compassion. When dharmata is realized, all dharmas gather, like containers and essence in the expanse of space. All the buddhas, as many as there are, are not different in the expanse of the dharmakaya. All the lamas, as many as there are, are not different in the expanse of the basis of manifestation. All lamas are buddhas, their intention is the dharmakaya, without gathering or separation. All buddhas are lamas, whoever is to be tamed, they appear as the one to be tamed. By the power of dharma, one moon appears again and again in various sizes. By the power of those to be tamed, one lama comes again and again in various forms. By the power of the water vessel, one moon appears as many moon images at the same time. By the power of beings' minds, one lama appears as many lamas at the same time. By the power of clouds, one moon appears in various shades of light. By the power of conceptual thoughts, one lama appears in various forms of good, bad, and flaws. By the power of karma, one moon appears separately as cooling and heating. By the power of thought, one lama appears as the basis of faith and wrong views. By the power of day and night, one moon appears like appearing and disappearing. By the power of benefiting beings, one lama appears like departing and remaining. The one body of all lamas, the root lama is the actual buddha. Introducing one's own mind as the dharmakaya, the kindness is greater than all buddhas. The lamas of the three lineages are all one essence, the different lamas have no distinction. Activities have no difference, and there is no departing or remaining. From whomever one receives kindness, that is the root. The activity of benefiting others is the lama.

I am not a lama who accomplishes personal matters, but a lama who teaches the Dharma of the Three Vehicles. If one teaches what is not Dharma, they are not a lama. A lama is one who tames the minds of students. If one does not tame minds, they are not a lama. A lama is one who connects with virtue. If one does not connect with virtue, they are not a lama. A lama is one who benefits all those they encounter. If one does not benefit, they are not a lama. A lama is one who possesses compassion. If one does not have compassion, they are not a lama. However many true lamas there are, though their names and appearances are different, their Dharmakaya is the same, their activity is the same, their intentions are the same, and their benefit to beings is the same. Teaching the Dharma for the sake of others, taming the minds of students, connecting all those they encounter to the path of virtue, and possessing compassion as the root of all this, are all the same for all lamas. Relying on the lama and practicing the lama, all eighty-four thousand aspects of Dharma are contained within this. The single, ultimate essence of this is unwavering, pure devotion. It opens the door to all Dharmas, removes all obstacles to practice, and enhances the effectiveness of all instructions. Know that this is devotion. It inspires all compassion, transforms one into a vessel for all blessings, and gathers the essence of all accomplishments. This is unwavering, pure devotion. All demons cannot overcome it, all obstacles cannot hinder it, and all obscurations are naturally purified. Know that this is devotion. Wrong thoughts do not arise, there is no need for instructions at the time of death, and it pacifies the confused appearances of the bardo. Know that this is devotion. In this life, one is cared for by holy beings, at the time of death, the appearance of the lama arises, and in the future, one goes to a pure land. Know that this is devotion. There is no separation from all objects of refuge, all wishes are spontaneously fulfilled, and ultimately, both one's own and others' benefit are accomplished. Know that this is devotion. Virtuous thoughts and conceptualizations increase, realization of the stages and paths arises naturally, and ultimately, mind and wisdom become one. Know that this is devotion. This devotion to the lama alone, if one relies on and practices the unchanging lama, whether one does this or not, whether one prays or not, the essential instructions gather, all blessings enter, obstacles are removed, the confused appearances of birth, death, and the bardo are pacified, and happiness arises in this life and the next. All wishes are fulfilled, and ultimately, one will definitely attain Buddhahood. This is devotion, the essence of a thousand instructions.
